Project Runway's Nina Garcia Self-Quarantined After Returning from Milan Fashion Week
ELLE's editor-in-chief and designer Brandon Maxwell discuss how the coronavirus outbreak has impacted their lives.
This time of year is filled with jet-setting for the movers and shakers of the fashion industry. Not long after crowning the winner of Bravo's Project Runway Season 18 during New York Fashion Week, judge Nina Garcia hopped on a plane to take in all the shows during Milan Fashion Week in February.
But when she came back, as more measures were put in place to stop the spread of coronavirus, Nina was told to quarantine herself after returning to the United States from Italy, which is experiencing the worst outbreak of the disease in Europe. "I came back from Milan and got quarantined. Self-quarantine," Nina shared during the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen After Show on March 12 (clip above).
It's important to note that Nina did not say she had been experiencing symptoms or that she had tested positive for the disease. But rather, travelers returning from countries with a Level 3 Travel Health Notice from the Centers for Disease Control, such as Italy, are being advised to stay home for 14 days and practice social distancing. "I just got back to work, and now we might be quarantined again," Nina said.
Nina's fellow Project Runway judge, designer Brandon Maxwell, said on WWHL that he was not in Milan for the city's Fashion Week, but he has voluntarily been staying home. "No, I was at home, and I have been self-quarantined for, I'm going on week three now. I came out for [WWHL]," he said.
"Thank you for coming out," Andy Cohen told Brandon.
Brandon said that it's important to put "safety first." "I'm a little bit of a germaphobe, like a little bit," he shared. "I'll shut down the damn office if someone coughs one time. I'm known to do it throughout the year. If someone comes in my office sick, I'm like, 'Please exit stage left.'"
He is now hard at work on his next collection as he works from home during this time. "I just finished a collection, so right now I'm just making a new one. So right now I'm just bumbling around my house in my robe, drinking coffee, being like, 'What do I have to say creatively?'" Brandon said. "And right now, it's not much. It's just a little bit of panic. We have to see how it channels itself in the clothes."
Brandon also looked back on some of his most iconic looks during his appearance on WWHL. Check it out, below.
