Andy Cohen explains why he rarely shows his kids' faces on social media
Andy is also the father of a 5-year-old son named Benjamin Allen Cohen; however, the little boy rarely appears on his dad’s Instagram these days. Andy explained the reason during a December 2023 appearance on the TODAY show, saying his children “didn’t sign up” for life in the public eye.
“The last time I showed Ben’s face [on Instagram] was when I got my star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” he told the hosts. “And Lucy, I’m teetering towards not showing anymore. I just feel funny about it. People need to understand that my kids are not me and they didn’t sign up for this.”
Andy said his mom, Evelyn Cohen, played a big role in his decision to scale back the number of posts that feature his kids.
“I’m figuring it out as I go,” he continued. "My mom is really on me about it. She’s really like, ‘You have to stop.’ She was very vocal about, ‘OK, you can’t show Ben anymore. When are you going to stop showing Lucy?’”
Andy Cohen reflects on his relationship with his son, Ben
Andy also touched on the toxicity of social media and how it can sometimes take a toll on his mental health; but, luckily for him, he has a son who keeps him grounded and feeling loved.
“If I go on Twitter at any given moment, it’s a battlefield about politics, or people telling me that I messed up a show completely, or that I’m this, that, or the other,” he explained. “But Ben today: I was like, ‘Ben, I love you.’ He goes, ‘However many stars there are in the sky is how much I love you.’ And I’m set for the day. I don’t give a f-ck what anyone’s saying about me on Twitter. This little boy loves me for as many stars as there are? The rest doesn’t really matter!”
