Amanda Batula Opens Up About Her Health and Weight Loss
The Winter House and Summer House cast member has gotten very candid about her health journey.
Since first appearing on Summer House in the show’s second season, Amanda Batula has been open with fans about what’s going on in her life, regardless of whether she was in a positive space or struggling to work through something.
Most recently, Amanda shared that she was dealing with some concerns regarding her health — mainly around her fertility and weight after stopping birth control as well as other medications. In a November 11, 2023 Instagram post, Amanda shared the positive news that she was feeling “better” following the health concerns she discussed during Summer House Season 7 and then on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in March.
Prior to that, Amanda had spoken about what she'd believed was an unrelated weight loss in 2020, when she also shared details on her diet.
Amanda Batula shared new details on her health in November 2023
In a November 11 Instagram post showing photos and videos from BravoCon 2023, Amanda shared an update on her health after a follower pointed out she looked “healthy and absolutely glowing” in the latest photos.
“I feel better now too," she responded in the comments section. "Everyone just needed to bear with me while my body and hormones sorted themselves out. We’re still working out the kinks but we’re moving in the right direction!!"
Amanda Batula's Weight Loss, Explained
In Episode 11 of Season 7 of Summer House, Amanda revealed that, as a result of going off birth control, she was unintentionally and steadily losing weight. "Something is happening,” she said in an interview. “It’s weird being a woman.”
In a March “Ask Me Anything” session with her followers, Amanda responded to someone who wanted to know if she had a breast reduction, noting that her breasts had gotten significantly smaller after going off birth control as well.
In March 2023 — as the season was airing — Amanda’s husband Kyle Cooke shed more light on the situation regarding his wife’s weight loss. Speaking on an episode of Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast, Kyle revealed that Amanda’s health issues were “more complicated” than she may have stated on the show. In addition to losing weight from stopping her birth control, Kyle said that Amanda was also on an acne medication that had the same side effect.
“There’s obviously a lot more to it than what made it into the [show],” Kyle said. “It breaks my heart.”
Kyle continued: “It was tough because she’s going through the weight loss, she’s going through the acne, and oh, by the way, what’s going on with her menstrual cycle and her fertility… I was so thankful for friends like Ciara [Miller, who is a nurse], who really kind of took her under their wing to start to understand what was going on.”
What were Amanda Batula's fertility concerns?
In Summer House Season 7 Episode 3, Amanda shared with her friends that she had concerns surrounding her health and fertility. She told the group that she hadn’t had her period since going off birth control the previous fall, and acknowledged that was she “nervous” to see a doctor because she could receive bad news about her health and fertility.
“You grow up, and you just think that you get married and you get pregnant and you have kids, and everything goes [according to plan],” Amanda said in the episode. “I just never thought that I would be in this situation, where there’s a chance it’s not just going to happen immediately and naturally.”
Months after that summer concluded, Amanda appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in March 2023 to reflect on those conversations and provide the latest news on her health journey.
"My health is a lot better... Everything's flowing the way it should," Amanda told Andy Cohen. "Yeah, I'm flowing."
What has Amanda Batula shared about her weight loss in the past?
In April 2020, Amanda revealed that she had lost weight since first appearing on the show in Season 2, which aired in 2018.
"Season 2, which was my first official season, was actually when I was at my heaviest," Amanda shared while answering a fan question in an April 2020 Instagram Story. "I don't know how much I weighed because I refused to step on a scale, but I would say I've lost between 15 to 20 pounds since then. And I'm now back down to my weight that I was in college."
She added, "I know that number might sound really big compared to how I looked then — it's not like I was huge — but I gained weight very evenly and I carry it in my face a lot too. But I had to buy a whole new wardrobe because I could not fit into my clothes that year."
What has Amanda Batula said about her diet?
Back in 2020, Amanda said she was on an intermittent fasting schedule in order to lose what she felt was the weight she'd gained prior to 2018. In addition, she drank Bulletproof coffee and was “cutting out all sugar and carbs.” Instead, she said she loaded up on “a lot of protein” and vegetables while trying to lose wait.
Still, she shared at the time that she allowed herself to “give into my cravings in small doses, so that you don't over indulge.”
She also said she didn’t track her weight by numbers. "I avoided the scale for a full year because the number that you see doesn't matter, what mattered to me was how I felt in the clothes that I was wearing and how I physically felt about myself," she explained. "As long as your favorite pair of jeans fit — that's the end goal."
She also added that, post-weight-loss, she added back some sugar and carbs.
