Summer can be a tough season for skincare, but does it always have to feel that way? The Daily Dish caught up with Married to Medicine cast member Dr. Jackie Walters, the famed Atlanta OB-GYN and Volition Skincare collaborator, for answers. We think you'll like what you hear.

So, what initially inspired the doctor to move into the skincare space? "I all of a sudden had adult onset acne," Dr. Jackie explained to the Daily Dish. "I went to see this dermatologist [who] created this formula...and it was like miracle."

She began sharing the product with her friends, who soon began "miracles" of their own when it came to skin health. Unfortunately, the dermatologist Dr. Jackie had been working with passed, at which point she decided to begin prescribing the winning combination to her patients. By that point, Dr. Jackie said, "I'm thinking, Everybody needs this." That's why she chose to "get it out there," so people "can buy it anywhere." After 10 years of using it herself, she was ready to share her secret with the world.

That led to the Married to Medicine cast member to Volition Beauty, which specializes in helping female entrepreneurs bring their beauty ideas to life. "We came up with this amazing face serum," she gushed. It's a "balancing and cleansing" serum designed to work with each person's unique "skin rhythm." All it was missing was "a sister or brother" product. Enter: The Skin Rhythm Balancing and Clearing Cleanser.

It turns out that developing acne in adulthood isn't exactly uncommon. As Dr. Jackie explained, there are phases skin goes through throughout life, beginning in puberty. When you first experience it, "You start to get the oily skin, and the horrible acne, and sometimes even scars," she said. "When you start to get more mature, as I call myself," and here she noted with a wink that some may refer to her demographic as "older women," many experience new hurdles with the emergence of hormones. "The [new] hormones can take you from oily to dry and everything in between," the OB-GYN expanded, "And that's the beauty of the skin care line! It really treats everybody from oily to dry."

When asked for beauty tips, she shared a surprisingly simple solution to two problems. "I put sunscreen in my makeup," Dr. Jackie revealed, adding "That way I make sure that I'm getting the sunscreen," without having to compromise on a look.

"So that's what I'm telling to everybody, especially women of color," she continued, "Put the sunscreen in your makeup!" Volition's "super seamless adaptive sunscreen" is made with "mineral shields" that work with most complexions, which makes it a go-to of hers.

As for everyday lifestyle tips to help achieve a skin "glow up," Dr. Jackie suggested people "stick with the big ones."

"Hydration," she stressed, is so key. "Drink half your body weight in water!" Additionally, she recommended "Having a nutritious diet," ideally one that incorporates eggs and beans. "Exercise is extremely important" as well, and of course, "a face routine" will seal the deal.

Most of all, though: Sleep. "There's no playing," she said. "Sleep is vitally important." When you combine these, "You tend to have that beautiful, glowing, skin," and "Feel better, look better, do better."
