Craig Conover Reveals Interesting New Details About His "Health Journey"

"It really changes your whole life," the Southern Charm OG shared in a recent interview.

By Cynthia Robinson

Just a few days after BravoCon 2023 wrapped, Craig Conover showed how he wasn't wasting any time getting fit for the new year.

How to Watch

Watch Southern Charm on Bravo Thursday, December 5 at 9/8c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo App.

In November 2023, the Southern Charm cast member shared several Instagram Stories of his grueling weight-lifting routine, showing himself doing bent-over dumbbell rows, front squats, and more at Charleston's Swolly Mammoth gym.

Though we've been keeping up with Craig's fitness routines lately (including a pre-BravoCon 2023 sweat session with his Summer House girlfriend, Paige DeSorbo), he recently shared new details about his fitness and "health journey." Keep reading to find out more.

Craig Conover details his "health journey"

In a January 8 episode of the Good Guys podcast, Craig spoke with hosts Josh Peck and Ben Soffer about how his health has evolved over the years.

"Two years ago I stopped drinking liquor and then, about a year ago, I really cut back [on]drinking and got in shape," Craig revealed on the podcast.

He then added that after previously gaining "like 30 pounds," he has now "lost 20 pounds over the last year."

"I think the health journey ... it really changes your whole life," he continued. "You start waking up earlier."

How regular exercise helps Craig Conover "stay on track"

In 2022, the Sewing Down South founder spoke about his experience with People, sharing that he was "more fit" than he had ever been "in years."

"I’m finally excited to take my shirt off again instead of hiding it on the show," Craig said at the time.

He continued: “I made a decision one day that I was going to go back to the gym no matter how much it sucked. And it did suck. I was like, ‘How the hell did I let myself get out of this habit?’”

Moreover, the Delaware native noted that his workout regimen also had a positive impact on his mental state as much as his physical appearance and overall health.

“Now, if I miss the gym for a few days in a row, I feel my depression creeping up on me. It’s really helped me stay on track,” he explained. “Balance, I’ve never found. I don’t have a balance. No matter how many people want to tell me that there’s balance, for me there’s not. I’m either not doing sh-t or I’m doing well. There’s no middle ground. One day I hope to find balance, but until then, I just have to keep the momentum going in a good way.”

Craig Conover shares more about his mental health journey

Craig again touched on his mental health journey through fitness in December 2023 when he hopped on his Instagram Stories to share that "getting vertical" that day was "very difficult."

"I just wanted to pop in and share part of my story, a little bit. But, I didn't know it until years ago, but I sometimes go through little bouts of depression," Craig revealed. "But, I've learned how to fight them, and, this morning was really tough going from horizontal to vertical, and that's all it really takes for me. I'm luckier than most.

He continued: "I know that I like how I feel after I go to the gym so much more than the person I am if I don't go, and I have so much to do today, that I was like, 'Just get up and go.' And so, I got up and started to walk around a little bit, and as soon as I got downstairs, I was like, 'Alright, let's do it, let's do it,'" he continued. "Anyway, I'm just saying that sometimes it's really hard. I hit the snooze button for like an hour and 15 minutes [and] really put it off, but I finally got up, I went to the gym, and now I'm getting my stuff done."
