Katie Maloney Gives Tom Schwartz a Gift for His New Home
As the Vanderpump Rules exes get settled in their new, separate apartments, Katie is helping Tom decorate his space.
Since revealing their split in March, Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz have moved out of their shared Valley Village home (get a tour of the house in the video above) and into new, separate apartments. And the Vanderpump Rules exes have managed to remain friendly in the process, as evidenced by a sweet gift Tom received from Katie.
In an October Instagram Story, Tom shared a look at a piece of decor his ex gifted him for his new place. “Thanks for the vanilla annamica,” Tom wrote over a snap of a plant in a green and red pot, tagging Katie.
This isn’t the first housewarming present Tom has received from Katie since their split. In June, the Tom Tom partner revealed that Katie had bought him an air fryer. “Bub, thank you! Look at this baby,” he said in an Instagram Story showing the new appliance. “Appreciate it.”
On the August 19 episode of Katie’s Dear Media podcast, You’re Gonna Love Me, Tom shared that although he is “super grateful” for his new apartment, the situation isn’t totally ideal. “Living in a small, little apartment that you have to pay $3,500 a month for? It’s hard not to be salty,” he admitted. “It’s smaller than my apartment in college.”
Katie offered a different perspective on the place. “I think your apartment is beautiful,” she said. “You just gotta, like, make it your own… You don’t have to stay there forever.”
For her part, Katie is also getting settled in a beautifully decorated apartment, which she spoke about in a recent episode of her podcast. “I’m really excited to just kind of make my own little space, my own little sanctuary,” she said. “I’ve been having fun sort of planning what I want it to look like, what I want the vibes to be. I’ve, like, bought some new furniture. I’m doing little DIY projects. It’s coming together.”
Katie has also addressed why neither she nor Tom decided to stay in their L.A. house (see inside by pressing play on the video above) after their separation. “As much as I would have loved to stay there, or Tom would’ve loved to stay there, it’s too much house for one person,” she explained on the June 10 episode of her podcast. “I originally was dying to stay there. I would have done anything to stay there. But then realistic thoughts entered my mind, and I was like, ‘Wait a minute, how could I afford to stay there?’ I mean, with two incomes, with two people, yes, it’s totally doable. But on my own, yikes. I mean, I could not have afforded a mortgage like that on my own. It’s very, very expensive.”
“On top of that,” she added, “you have the utilities of a house like that, it’s also very expensive, and then you have a gardener, and you have a pool person, and property taxes, and, you know, it gets to be a lot. So it just fiscally did not make sense. The sensible thing to do was just to sell it and part ways and not try to stay there and… what, get roommates? No, I’m good on that. So yeah, we are both living in our own little places now.”
