Katie Maloney Explains Why It Was “Nice” to Live with Tom Schwartz After They Split
The Vanderpump Rules cast member shared new details about continuing to share a home with her ex-husband for months after they separated.
When Vanderpump Rules returned for Season 10, the show followed Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz as they each started to get settled in their respective new apartments. Before finding their new homes, the former couple lived together in their shared house for several months after their split, but viewers never got to see that dynamic — until now.
Vanderpump Rules: Secrets Revealed, which aired on June 14, showed what it was like for Tom and Katie to live together in their Valley Village home after they separated.
“It’s been two and a half months since we officially separated, and we’re still living together,” Katie said in an episode interview. “It’s not ideal, but we’re going to list our house. And honestly, it’s been a little nice to sort of, like, slowly break up rather than being cold turkey.”
Although those “nice” moments seen during the episode included ordering sushi together and talking about what to do with their “cute, sentimental sh-t” when they moved out, things took a turn when Tom asked Katie if she was dating, and she said yes. After the emotional exchange, which ended with Tom leaving the room, Katie said to herself, “This is why I need to move out.”
When did Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz move out of their house?
In June 2022, Tom shared an Instagram Story that showed a moving truck, boxes, and plants outside the former couple’s house. “It’s official old buddy,” he wrote. Days later, Katie penned an emotional farewell to the house.
“I hate goodbyes. And this one hurts a lot,” Katie captioned an Instagram photo. “The emotions and words are hard to pin down. Closing this chapter on my life feels like attending my own funeral. But I’m very much alive.”
“Thank you house for being the coziest brightest home, for the memories, for being my sanctuary, for letting me dress you up like a [Hallmark] movie set at Christmas and for being OURS,” she continued in the post, tagging Tom. “I’m going to miss coming home.”

“I wanted it to be just totally tranquil,” she says. “I love it. It’s cozy.”
Tom Schwartz opens up about his new apartment
Season 10 of Vanderpump Rules documented Tom struggling to adapt to his new apartment. In the clip above, he told Scheana Shay he was “so embarrassed by [his] place,” and added, “It’s depressing.”
On a June 2022 episode of Katie’s Dear Media podcast, You’re Gonna Love Me, Tom shared more about why he was struggling to feel at home in his new place. “I don’t need much. I’m low maintenance. I can live in a small, little apartment,” he said. “It’s just living in a small, little apartment that you have to pay $3,500 a month for? It’s hard not to be salty. You know what I mean? It’s smaller than my apartment in college.”
However, Tom clarified, “I’m super grateful to have a roof over my head, you know? I do like my apartment. It’s just hard to go from what we had to that.”
