Jeweler Kyle Chan Gives Us All the Details on Brittany Cartwright's $70,000 Engagement Ring
The jeweler behind Brittany Cartwright's 3.14-carat, cushion-cut, white-diamond engagement ring exclusively tells The Lookbook about the hidden meaning in the sparkler's double halo design.
By now, we've all been blinded by the sparkle of Brittany Cartwright's 3.14-carat, cushion-cut, white-diamond engagement ring. But if you're like us, you can't help but look at the ring again, and again... and OK, one more time. Let's all take a moment to swoon.
There's no doubt about it: Jax Taylor made the right call by turning to jewelry designer Kyle Chan when he decided to propose to his Kentucky native love. Not only is the designer a close friend of Jax's, he's also proven his talent for making out-of-this-world engagement rings before. Remember: That dazzling sparkler that Tom Schwartz slipped onto Katie Maloney-Schwartz's finger back in the day is also a Kyle Chan original, and the jeweler's other fans include Kyle Richards and several other members of the Vanderpump Rules crew.
So, The Lookbook couldn't help but be a little star-struck — or shall we say sparkle-struck — when Chan agreed to chat with us. And as it turns out, he had plenty of tea to spill on went into designing Brittany's bridal bling.
"Designing Jax and Brittany’s ring was very exciting and emotional to me, because they are close friends of mine that I adore," the jeweler shared. "Making their ring was also a bit scary, because you absolutely want to make the perfect ring for people you care about." Plus, he wanted to make sure that the sparkler was everything the bride-to-be dreamed of.
Chan continued: "This ring was specially designed with Brittany in mind. [Jax and Brittany] had an idea of what type of style and diamond they were looking for: micro pave setting around a larger center stone." Cue the dramatic music: A micro pave setting is difficult to nail, Chan said, and "if you miss it by a hair, [the ring] does not end up looking right."
Needless to say, the ring turned out looking beyond right — and it had a few extra flourishes. "I took their original idea and added my own spin to it," Chan said. "It features a double diamond halo, representing one for Brittany and one for Jax. Jax certainly spared no expense, choosing a certified white diamond over three carats."
So, how would he compare making this ring to making Katie's? "When comparing the process of making Jax and Brittany’s ring to Katie and Tom’s, everything was very different," he said. "They’re different people with different styles and aesthetics, that wanted different things. Both of their styles are amazing; Brittany [likes] the traditional, timeless, and elegant look, whereas Katie is adventurous, stylish, and edgy. Making both of their rings were very happy times for me, as I love them both dearly.”
