When Ramona Singer went on that red flag date on The Real Housewives of New York City, it was Rori Sassoon who set her up. She also tried to set one of the ladies up with red scarf guy, and has been a regular presence on the show as the ladies try to find love with the help of a matchmaker. She also runs Platinum Poire, an upscale dating agency in New York.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of New York City on Bravo Tuesdays at 9/8c and stream next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.

Dying to get some of her tips? Well, Sassoon has a new book out called The Art of The Date, where she shares the secrets she uses when trying to set two people up, co-written with Dr. Errol Gluck, who co-owns her matchmaking agency. Sassoon told Personal Space the book is based on her many years of matchmaking.

First and foremost, she advises people to put down social media and actually get outside to meet someone you may fall in love with.

“For some reason, people seem to think that love just comes along and falls into your lap. In reality, those matches and relationships are built from the bottom up: the scent, the touch, the way you look at someone. That’s where love comes from," Sassoon said.

She explained the book (using fill in the blanks and lists of questions) will help you better understand yourself, so you can see what you can and cannot fix, and therefore find a partner who is suited to you. “There is usually more good stuff than you think,” Sassoon said.

The Art of The Date focuses on romance and not hookups, Sassoon noted, and is for people who are looking for lasting love. She takes you through everything from what to do on a first date (show up on time, look your best, ask questions, say thank you) to when to sleep together if you are looking for something long-term.

She also offers guidelines for reading red flags early on, identifying players, and dealing with insecurities. “Why linger in a relationship that’s an eight when you know you deserve a 10?” Sassoon asked. Hard to argue with that!
