Margaret Josephs Explains Why She Doesn’t Wear Her Signature Pigtails Anymore

When Margaret Josephs first burst onto The Real Housewives of New Jersey scene in 2017, she was known as the “Powerhouse in Pigtails.” But the entrepreneur hasn’t been wearing her signature hairstyle recently, and people have questions. In a recent text Q&A session with fans, Margaret explained why RHONJ viewers haven’t seen much of her go-to ’do lately. 

“I still do the pigtails, but my hair is very short right now,” Margaret shared. However, all pigtail hope is not lost. “I am gonna bring them back more!” she promised. “Do not fear, the pigtails will be here!”

Margaret knows that her signature hairstyle has many fans. “People love the pigtails,” she says in the video above. “They’re charming [and] disarming. I’d go into a business meeting, people would underestimate me, and then you can take over.” 

Margaret also shares her secret for “perfect pigtails” in the clip. “The pigtails have to be low, in the right position, so you can still see your earrings,” she says, showing off her gold hoops. “I feel [the pigtails] work on me, and they’re easy. People aren’t futzing all over my hair.”

There may not have been futzing, but there was a bit of a fuss. “People are making quite the hoopla! Everyone’s commenting on the pigtails,” Margaret says in the clip. “I never thought they were such a big deal.”

But she did concede that the pigtails had a certain kind of charm. “Everybody wants to bang a girl in pigtails,” she says. “I mean, you’re very bangable.”  

Even though she’s been quite attached to her pigtails, Margaret has been known to switch up her style from time to time. In 2018, she got a total hair makeover from celebrity hairstylist Julius Michael.

The stylist shared photos of Margaret wearing a long, sleek, very blonde mane, complete with a swoop of bangs framing her face. She has also worn topknots, high ponytails, and even hot pink hair. 

In 2019, Margaret opened up about her tresses in a PSA she posted on Instagram. “This is a public service announcement from the Marge: Everybody was commenting on my hair yesterday. This is my real hair, no hairpieces, no nothing, when I just blow-dry it myself before I go out for the day,” Margaret said in her video, which showed her hair down. 

“It’s a rock-and-roll shag,” she explained. “Julius Michael colors my hair. Hair by Nadia cuts my hair. I happen to love it. It’s very 1970s, it’s short. I do not wear extensions at all and I’m not going to do it. I like to wear hairpieces.”
