Racquel Chevremont Reveals Odd Reason You “Might Not Recognize” Her Modeling: “Who Knew?”
The New York Housewife has graced the pages of many editorials, though some digitally removed a natural feature of hers.
Racquel Chevremont, one of the newest castmates on The Real Housewives of New York City, just got candid about her decades-long career in the fashion and beauty world.
The “true New Yorker” from the Bronx sat down with Bravo, giving fans the details of her exciting career as an art curator, advisor, and model. The Housewife admitted to modeling for “quite a few campaigns,” many of them including big names like Nivea, Benetton, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Fila, and L’Oréal.
It’s no wonder, then, that she became acquainted with returning Housewife, former J. Crew president, and LoveSeen founder Jenna Lyons before being introduced to the rest of the RHONY women, as seen in the Season 15 premiere. In the episode, Jenna called Racquel “the real deal in an industry that does not favor women at all.”
What does Racquel do for work?
Racquel is a model. She told Bravo that she didn’t do a lot of runway work during her successful career throughout the 1990s, though it was possible that some would have come across her work while flipping through magazines.
“But you might not recognize me because they took my freckles out a lot,” she confessed. “Yeah, back then, freckles were a no-no. Who knew?”
Per an interview with W Magazine, published the same day as the RHONY Season 15 premiere, Racquel said she signed with Elite Models in 1993.
The new Housewife told producers that she currently works as an art curator and advisor.
“For those of you that don’t know what that is, I advise artists, and I also advise collectors, budding collectors, on what art to buy,” she explained.
She added that she also offers guidance to those trying to make a career in the art world.
“And I curate shows, so I might put on a show for a gallery, I might put on a show for a television show, which is a lot of fun,” Racquel continued. “So, I’ve curated a lot of artwork onto shows that you might know, and I curate shows in museums."
In RHONY Season 15, Episode 1, Racquel said some of the T.V. shows where audiences might see her work included Empire, Severance, and the Sex and the City spin-off, And Just Like That…
Another clip in the premiere showed the Housewife collaborating with contemporary visual artist Ferrari Sheppard.
Racquel on Jenna Lyons' friendship
Racquel identifies as a Black, queer woman, the second queer woman on RHONY after her longtime friend, Jenna, joined the cast in Season 14.
“I think Jenna felt a little lonely last season. She was much older than the women, and queer, so she had an idea: Would I be interested in joining the show? She said, ‘It’s not as scary as you might imagine,’” Racquel told W Magazine. “I thought, this could be interesting. It could push what I’ve been doing over the last couple decades of my life, which is using whatever platform I have to advance representation. Why not? How bad could it be?”
During the same interview, Racquel touched on how she brought her style onto the show.
“I mainly wore what I have, what was already in my closet,” she admitted. “It’s eclectic. I might be a little different from the other ladies with respect to what I wear, but it is me.”
And so are her glorious freckles.
