Mariah Carey Was "Like Everybody Else" on New Year's, Performed Without Hot Tea
"Oh, it's a disaster!" the singer told her NYE audience.
In true Mariah Carey fashion, the singer took the stage at Dick Clark's New Year’s Rockin’ Eve again this year despite a somewhat disastrous performance plagued with sound issues last year. Wearing a chic white fur coat and a dazzling barely-there dress, Carey opted to serenade the crowd at at a stationary mic instead of attempting a choreographed number.
But it wouldn't be a Mimi moment without a bit of sass, which the diva predictably served up when she realized there wasn't any hot tea on stage.
"Just want to take a sip of tea if they’ll let me," Carey said between songs before noticing the beverage she requested was MIA. She continued, "They told me there would be tea! Oh, it’s a disaster! OK, well, we’ll just have to rough it. I’m just going to be like everybody else with no hot tea."
And so, sans warm fluids (which are actually super important for vocal cord health), Carey finished her glamorous performance of hit songs "Vision of Love" and "Hero."
Twitter, of course, loved every second of the tea snafu. One viewer wrote, "The first time life throws you a curve in 2018, just remember: Mariah Carey made it through without her hot tea. You can make it through too."
Carey also poked fun at herself on Instagram following her New Year's Eve performance. "Found my tea!" she captioned a Jan. 1 photo featuring a tea-filled mug.
May she never change.
