Season 17 Top Chef's Last Chance Kitchen Third Challenge Will Make You Crave Fried Food
Host Tom Colicchio asks the chefs to surprise him in this tricky redemption challenge.
Last Chance Kitchen is back with another sizzling hot challenge. Following the April 9 episode of Bravo’s Top Chef, two all star chefs fired up their deep fryers for a shot at redemption.
After serving up some unfortunately dry brussel sprouts while cooking a vegetarian dish as part of a six-course progression, Lisa Fernandes was motivated to prove herself after her elimination. “I’ve never heard ‘pack your knives and go’ before,” she said. “I feel very disappointed in myself. I did not put my life and my restaurant on hold to get eliminated. I came to win.”
Joe Sasto, on the other hand, was feeling pretty good after two consecutive Last Chance Kitchen wins. “I got two wins in a row, and I want to keep this winning streak going to get back into the competition,” he explained.
Host Tom Colicchio presented the all star chefs with a new challenge to fight for a chance to return to Top Chef. Lisa and Joe were required to cook a delicious meal with access to only one cooking element: a deep fryer.
“We don’t want French fries and ketchup,” Tom warned. “I guess what I’m saying is, surprise me.”
Lisa was ready to go, saying, “I got this. This is my world. I love deep frying proteins, I can deep fry fruits, I can deep fry vegetables, like... let’s f--king go.”
Joe wasn’t feeling quite as confident. “Lisa is very excited for this fryer challenge. I am not,” he revealed. “I just don’t cook a lot of it myself. I guess you could say I’m the pasta guy.”
