The 2016 Tony Award Nominations Are In (and They Honor More Than Just Hamilton)
A #GG2D favorite is among them.
It's a big day for the Great White Way. That's because the nominations for the 2016 Tony Awards were announced Tuesday morning.
Hamilton, the Broadway musical everyone's been buzzing about (even The Real Housewives of New York City), earned a record 16 nominations, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and representation in all four acting categories. It's no wonder Amy Schumer has tried to capture some of the show's magic in a musical of her own about Bethenny, er, Betsy Ross.
Fans of Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce will also recognize another nominee. Megan Hilty, who played Frumpkis' new wife Charlene last season of GG2D, scored a nom for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for the revival of Noises Off.
Megan, who has previously appeared in Broadway musicals like Wicked and 9 to 5, previously spoke to The Daily Dish about her decision to do a play this time around. "I really wanted to do something where I was playing a nice person and make people laugh," she said. "And I thought it was important to do something on stage where I didn't sing. There's this really weird misconception that people who do musicals can't do plays, which is so strange."
Megan is nominated along with her Noises Off co-star Andrea Martin, Pascale Armand (Eclipsed), Saycon Sengbloh (Eclipsed), and Jayne Houdyshell (The Humans). She expressed her joy about the news of her Tony nomination on Twitter Tuesday. "This is insane!!! And SO exciting!!!Thank you #TonyAwards for all the #NoisesOff love!!! And congratulations to all the nominees!" Megan tweeted.
Head over to the Tony Awards official website for the full list of nominees. See if Hamilton and Megan bring home some major hardware when the 2016 Tony Awards air live Sunday, June 12 on CBS.
Of course, Megan isn't the first Bravoleb to conquer Broadway. We previously followed NeNe Leakes' journey to the stage in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Get a front-row seat to her Broadway debut, below.
