Tom Schwartz on Divorce: "It's Not That Sad"
Will the #PumpRules pal's outlook affect his own commitment to marriage?
When talking to Tom Schwartz, it's hard not to bring up marriage. Not only is he a newlywed, but his engagement to Katie Maloney—and its many ups and downs—has been well documented on this season of Vanderpump Rules. So naturally, when Schwartz and Tom Sandoval stopped by The Daily Dish podcast, the subject of matrimony came up.
When asked whether Scheana Shay's divorce announcement has had an impact on Schwartz's own outlook on marriage, he said, "It's sobering for sure. It's unfortunate, but [Sandoval and I] were chatting earlier. I still think, even if things don't work out and you end up getting divorced or you break up with someone, there's still so many good things that [came out of the relationship]. People are so bleak about it. I get it. Initially the knee-jerk reaction, you know, you're very negative, 'I wasted four years,' but really, there's so much to it. It's so rich. It's not that sad to me when people get divorced. It's not that sad at all."
Sandoval agreed, "There's no reason to sit there and remain together if you're not happy or you feel like you're missing out on a life of what could be."
Schwartz says it's time to change the perception of divorce and its implications of failure. "You got to reframe it."
