Why Emily & Tamra “Have a Hard Time” Being Sympathetic to Jennifer Pedranti

Emily Simpson and Tamra Judge are self-described "scrappy" women when it comes to their personal finances.

By Sophie Vilensky

During The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 18, we've gotten an inside look at Jennifer Pedranti's complicated financial situation. And naturally, the topic is on all of her fellow 'Wives minds.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Orange County on Thursdays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo App.

While out for a nice oceanside stroll on Episode 5 — which aired August 8 — Emily Simpson and Tamra Judge discussed the situation, including Jennifer's recent trip to Las Vegas with her fiancé Ryan Boyajian (that they assume he paid for).

"What do you think about that, though?" Emily asked her castmate. "Because it's like, I see it, and I'm like 'Wow.'"

Tamra, for her part, noted, "Well, she can't just sit at home and look at her empty bank account."

From there, both 'Wives elaborated in their own confessional interviews. Emily said, "I have a hard time with women who want other people to pay their way, and they don't want to put the work in themselves."

Tamra concurred in her own interview: "Me and Emily are a little scrappy, and we can take care of ourselves. Jen is not that personality, and it's frustrating to see because she's going through all this shit, and it's kind of like Shannon [Storms Beador]: It's self-induced."

Jennifer Pedranti's financial issues, explained

During RHOC Season 18, Episode 3, Jennifer detailed her finances in a conversation with her fellow cast members. The topic came up after she was unable to pay rent in a house Gina Kirschenheiter found for her and was evicted.

Essentially, Jennifer had spent much of her adult life having someone else — her ex-husband, for example — take care of her finances. "I'm learning. I had no access to anything [financial]," she explained while sitting down with the ladies after a flag football game. "I want to stand on my own two feet. I don't want to not know finances. I don't want my car not being paid."

In a confessional, she expanded on the topic even more.

"It's scary to be 46 and have to figure out how to do things that other people learn in their 20s," she explained. "I've never had a credit card in my name, and I never knew what fear was, stress was. This is a new spot for me."

In the same episode, Jennifer explained that Ryan agreed to absorb her $24,000 debt. With that being said, Gina noted it was important she become financially independent so she didn't have to rely on him.

"You need to make changes so that you're in the driver's seat," shared the realtor.

Jennifer ultimately agreed: "If something were to happen with Ryan, I literally am homeless and I don't have a car."
