Ryan Serhant's Wife Emilia Bechrakis Just Celebrated a Big Career High

The #MDLNY couple open up about the lawyer's big milestone.

Earlier this summer, Emilia Bechrakis officially became Mrs. Ryan Serhant after the two married in July, but now the Million Dollar Listing New York spouse is celebrating another big accomplishment. On Wednesday, she was officially sworn into the New York bar, allowing her to practice law in the Big Apple., and the newlyweds are basking in the glow of her landmark achievement.

"Emilia just got sworn into the bar yesterday, and now I'm permanently represented by counsel," Ryan told The Daily Dish.

"I mean it's a long journey for me because I came from a law background in England," she said. "So it's been a while and I worked before, so I'm excited. Almost, for me, it solidified that I'm here I'm living in New York and I'm gonna live here. We're married, so it's all in a nice order, a nice timeline. It was that final step for me to feel like 'OK, I live here,' even though we're married and it was a really big step for me."

It's been a long journey to this day. Six years ago I was getting my last of three law degrees in the UK - yes, 3, English Law, maritime, and legal practice. I went on to work for the global law firm Norton Rose in Athens where I started a career in Shipping litigation. At the time I thought I would come to New York to see if I could find a job in Maritime law. I didn't at first, and I was about to go home, but then I met Ryan. When I finally got the dream of a lifetime, running Nationwide legal and container claims at MSC, the largest container line in the world, I worked in-house, studied for the New York State bar, took ethics classes, exams, did a ton of bar review, completed long pro bono hours, got engaged, got promoted, quit my job, started a new career in Land title, planned a destination wedding, gathered paperwork and affidavits from overseas, got married, submitted my application for admission, and finally made it to today! I just got sworn in as an attorney, in front of my husband. Can't wait to see what's next! I AM SO HAPPY!

However, Emilia's studious nature and journey to practicing law has always been a big part of their relationship. "I remember our second date, she got to the restaurant early and she was studying for the bar," Ryan recalled. "She was studying all during our dating cause she didn't go to law school here. She went to law school in England. So it's very different to try to come to the U.S. without going to a U.S. law school to just take the bar. It's very, very crazy. I couldn't even get into law school. I tried, and I was like 'You know what? Screw it, I'll go be a real estate broker.' I was like I'll marry a lawyer; this is way too hard.'"

Today was one of the proudest days of my life. Today Emilia was officially sworn into the New York BAR!!! I couldn't be a prouder husband, even if I tried. Puffer, you worked so hard for so long to get to this day, and I'm so happy for you. Also, I am now permanently represented by counsel ð

Now that he is officially married to a lawyer, she might have a new goal on the horizon. "I think I'll get my broker's license now. I can get it now," she said. Ryan's take on that? "Great... and I can be a stay-at-home dad with our kids Taylor Swift and Midriff."
