If You, Like Raquel Leviss, Don't Know Who Charles Manson Was, Here's an Explainer

It was in that moment Stassi Schroeder likely realized she might never be able to be friends with Raquel Leviss: During last Monday's episode of Vanderpump Rules, Raquel revealed to true crime super-fan Stassi she had no idea who notoriously evil cult leader Charles Manson was.

Quick recap: Raquel was inviting everyone to a "puppy shower" to celebrate her and boyfriend James Kennedy welcoming their dog, Graham, to their family. But when she invited Stassi, it quickly went south, with Stassi remarking Raquel "sounds like the woman who wanted to marry Charles Manson" in her relationship with James.

"I don't know who that is," a confused Raquel responded, much to Stassi's horror.

So, who is Charles Manson and why would Stassi compare James to him?

Manson is infamous for putting together The Manson Family, a cult that he formed in the 1960s. Manson collected various lost souls, mostly young women, who quickly became devoted to their leader. One of his former female followers even recently said she thought he was "the closest thing to Jesus." In fact, he had such a hold over these women that several of them, along with some male followers, committed nine murders on Manson's behalf in 1969.

Even when he went to prison, one woman, Afton Burton (the woman Stassi was referring to), still fell in love with him and got engaged to him. Learn more about his early life, his crimes, and what eventually happened to Manson in the video above.
