Marty Caffrey Speaks out on His Divorce from Danielle Staub: "I Feel Great Relief as Well as Sadness"
Marty Caffrey had bittersweet feelings about his divorce from Danielle Staub.
After his divorce from Danielle Staub was officially finalized on Thursday, February 21, Marty Caffrey reflected on the end of his marriage in a statement to PEOPLE. “Now that the divorce is final, I feel great relief as well as sadness," he said. "Relief comes as I have finally reached the end of the twisted road I was dragged down. I am looking forward to moving on in life with my supportive and loving family and friends around me. However, Danielle and I did fall in love, and it is sad to part from each other this way after experiencing something special together.”
Marty ended the statement with well wishes for Danielle. "I bear her no ill will, and I wish her the best in everything she does," he said.
Danielle's rep confirmed her divorce had been finalized in a statement to The Daily Dish on February 21: “This has been a difficult road for Danielle, but she is glad everything is finalized and she can now move forward to the next chapter of her life."
Danielle and Marty married on May 5, 2018 on Bimini Island in the Bahamas, which fans got to watch this season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey (clip above). But by July, reports began to surface of trouble in Danielle and Marty's marriage. Marty filed for divorce from Danielle in August.
The RHONJ friend opened up about why her marriage ultimately fell apart during an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show last October. “It’s funny how I saw certain things happening, but you just believe, especially with the perception around us, getting engaged would make it better… getting married would make it better," she shared. "It doesn’t get better, ladies. If it’s falling apart, it’s broken. You can't fix that."
As RHONJ fans watched her ill-fated wedding with Marty this season, Danielle asked for some compassion during this difficult time. "This was real to me. If he was the one for me, we would still be together. You can all pass judgment. You can all say what you need to say and I’m certain the opinions will be strong but I urge you all to take a minute and realize I’m sharing my life with you the ups and downs," she wrote on Instagram on December 30, 2018. "The good, the bad, the pretty, the ugly, all the parts of me and it’s an honor to do so! I do realize I leave myself open for scrutiny, but the things that my husband has done to my family and I weeks following our wedding breaking his vows he promised to protect keep me safe love me and honor me ...so take a moment to realize no one would know his name if it weren’t for me trusting him to want to be a part of my family and my life."
