Mariah Carey Actually Does Know Some Famous Divas but Still Manages to Throw Shade
The chanteuse had some opinions on Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Britney Spears on #WWHL.
No, Mariah Carey still doesn't know Jennifer Lopez, she revealed during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live Sunday night. But there are plenty of other pop divas that she does actually know — and many more who are in the same boat at J.Lo — she revealed to host Andy Cohen.
The WWHL host quizzed the iconic singer on which music superstars she does and doesn't know, which Mariah prefaced by saying that she's "forgetful." The criteria for Mariah to actually know someone seems to be that she has had to have not only met her but also have had a conversation with her, such as Lady Gaga. "Well, she came to my show. She was very sweet," Mariah explained. "We've met, and we had a conversation in my dressing room. It was very sweet, and I enjoyed the moment."
We can now also add Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Britney Spears to the list of people Mariah knows. Well, she at least had something to say about them other than she doesn't know them. Britney should feel especially #blessed because when her name came up, Mariah said, "I love Britney Spears."
Mariah shockingly said she doesn't know fellow legend Madonna because she has "never had a conversation with her." She also doesn't know Ariana Grande, who Andy pointed out seemed to give "an homage to Mariah" early on in her career. "Child, I don't know when early in the career was," Mariah seemed to serve up a bit of shade toward the "Side to Side" singer. "Honestly, I'm not familiar. I listen to hip-hop more than I listen to pop music."
Mariah got a bit shady again when she couldn't quite remember if she had ever met Miley Cyrus. Andy then corrected her, saying that the two had shared the stage during a past VH1 Divas Live, although he might have actually been referring to a 2008 Stand Up to Cancer special in which they performed together, alongside the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Mary J. Blige. Well, Miley did tell ELLE in September that she's never really been a fan of Mariah's, so perhaps Mimi has a point.
Mariah definitely had a lot of love for one diva during her visit to the Bravo Clubhouse. Watch her praise Beyoncé, below.
