Lala Kent Reveals the Conversations She's Had with Lisa Vanderpump About Being a Mom
The Vanderpump Rules cast member is sharing cute updates daughter Ocean and what she wants to do next in her career.
Being a new mom isn't easy, and it's something that Lala Kent has learned firsthand these last few months. Back in March, she welcomed a daughter, Ocean, her first child with fiancé Randall Emmett. She's been keeping fans up-to-date on her new life as a mom (from adorable updates on baby Ocean to observations she's made about the ups and downs of motherhood), and she also spoke to Bravo Insider about how she's adjusting to this whole new world.
"We are doing very well. I will say, for four weeks in, you know, I feel like we’re a little team," Lala shared in a phone interview conducted just weeks after she gave birth. "Because I’m new to motherhood, Ocean’s brand new to the world, and we’re just figuring it out together. The most surprising thing…I would say it’s surprising, but also the most difficult, because you know, other moms try to prep you for motherhood, and there’s just nothing in the world that anyone could say to prep you. You kind of have to just go through it. But it would be when Ocean’s screaming, they go through this list of things. It could be that she’s hungry. A dirty diaper. You know, and there’s a list. And when you go through all of those things, and she’s still screaming and you’re like, ‘OK, what do I do now?’ I would say that that would be the most, ‘OK, this is a lot of work,’ and I have a new respect for all moms. Especially stay-at-home moms. Because this is probably the hardest job I’ve ever had."
Though, Lala does have some incredible women to lean on during the transition to learning how to balance it all. Those women are her mom, Lisa, as as well Lisa Vanderpump, her longtime supporter and boss. "I’ve gotten a lot of advice from Lisa Vanderpump. She’s been absolutely amazing in this whole process. And then, you know, my own mother has given me great advice as well, because I was not an easy baby. I mean, Ocean definitely has been a dream. It’s like, has she been a dream, or am I just that obsessed where it’s like, she can do no wrong? I don’t know," Lala said. "Lisa [Vanderpump’s] advice was to cherish every single moment. And I know that so many people have given me that advice, but she has given it to me since giving birth, and she’s absolutely right. I mean, it sounds so cheesy to be like, it’s a fleeting moment, enjoy every minute, but it really is. Like, I’m looking back at photos of when Ocean was born, which was, like I said, it was four weeks ago, and she’s already changed so much. And it really is sad how quickly it goes by. So I would say that is the best advice that anyone has given me since she was born."
Lala isn't the only new mom in the Vanderpump Rules group, and she noted that it's been great to have a support system in the new parents around her. Plus, it means that Ocean has some baby friends as well (she was recently hanging out with Scheana Shay's daughter, Summer, for instance). "Oh my gosh, it’s amazing. I feel like I’m not alone in this because, even though it’s such an incredible time, there are moments where you’re like, this is difficult, and I’m exhausted, and it’s time to feed again? And it's a completely new lifestyle that I’m taking on. I wouldn’t trade it for the world, but it’s nice to have your friends kind of going through it as well. You feel a little less alone," Lala said.
It was confirmed earlier this year that Lala will return for Season 9 of Vanderpump Rules, along with LVP (duh!), Scheana, Tom Schwartz, Tom Sandoval, Katie Maloney-Schwartz, Ariana Maddix, James Kennedy, and Raquel Leviss. The new season went into production in May. Lala is also an author, a successful podcaster (with an upcoming live tour), beauty entrepreneur, thanks to her Give Them Lala Brand, and she recently launched the baby clothing brand, fittingly called Give Them Lala Baby.
Still, Lala does have another career goal in mind. "I still have not given up on my dreams of just acting consistently and being involved in the scripted world. I grew up, you know, training and doing that, and it’s the reason why I moved to L.A., and for me, I think just having roles that are coming to me consistently that are challenging, that would be the one thing that I would like to work towards and conquer," she said in her phone interview with Bravo Insider. "I’m a Virgo, so I love to take on challenges and conquer them. My dream role, well, I have two. I would want to play almost like a Lara Croft character because I just think it would be badass. And you know, I really am into comedy. I would really just be so into taking on the role that’s funny. I always said if there’s one thing that I would want people to say about me, it would be like, 'Damn, that chick is fun or funny.' That is all I strive to be is fun or funny. So that would be a role that I would love to do is a comedic part."
Plus, Lala has something else on her plate. For those wondering, earlier this year it was confirmed that Ocean's parents plan to marry sometime in 2022.
