Lala Kent Gets Candid About Her Sobriety and Her "Rock Bottom Moment"
Vanderpump Rules' Lala Kent is reflecting on her journey as she prepares to celebrate five years of sobriety.
Lala Kent is days away from hitting a major milestone in her sobriety journey, and ahead of the momentous occasion, she opened up about her motivation to remain alcohol-free and why she's so grateful she decided to give it up in the first place.
The Vanderpump Rules cast member previously revealed that she made said decision in 2018, when, in the immediate aftermath of her father's passing, she was "coping" by drinking non-stop. As she told E! News, "When I went on the full on binge drinking for, I believe it was three or four days straight, I just woke up with that feeling of being out of control, not knowing what I did, just the guilt and the shame, and that was the moment I said, 'I'm taking my life back. I'm not living one more day this way.'"
This month, Lala will celebrate 5 years of sobriety. Keep reading to hear what she shared in the days leading up to then.
Lala Kent on Staying Sober
Explaining how she avoids temptation, Lala told Showbiz Cheat Sheet on Oct. 15, "I believe that my obsession with my sobriety is what keeps me steadfast in this mindset. I revisit my rock bottom moment, recollecting why I chose to get sober, and then I look at my life and realize that I owe my sobriety for being here. That alone is sufficient to keep me sober.”
“I remain sober for myself, first and foremost, because failure to do so could likely result in a relapse," Lala continued, before acknowledging the big role her daughter, Ocean, plays in her sobriety as well. "When I look at my child, I think to myself, ‘Oh my gosh, I had a few years of sobriety under my belt before I became a mother.’ Knowing that she will never witness her mommy losing control due to her innate nature; she will never see me in an altered state because of substances, and, to me, that’s worth everything. So, I’ll fight for my sobriety for the rest of my life.”
The Latest on Lala Kent's Life
Lala has lots to celebrate these days beyond her sobriety. She turned 33 in August and took to Instagram on Oct. 5 to reflect on everything that's happened since then.
"33 has brought me lots of happiness so far," began her caption on the post, which features several photos of Ocean as well as Lala doing everything from hosting a charity gala that benefitted drug prevention to hanging out with her Vanderpump Rules castmate Ally Lewber. "Ocean told me she wants a baby brother. She got her first G Wagon and her at 16 flashed before my eyes. I hosted the [Brent Shapiro Founation] Spectacular for drug prevention."
Lala continued, but concluded the caption with, "I have no complaints."
