Colin MacRae Tells Gary King He Needs to "Man Up" About This
The tension is already building aboard Parsifal III.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht First Mate Gary King may not have been around at the start of the charter season, but now that he's on board and ready to get to work, he means business. The problem is, so does deckhand Chase Lemacks, and the April 24 episode made it clear that he and Gary don't exactly see eye to eye.
The two repeatedly clashed throughout the episode, with Gary feeling as though Chase — despite his much lower rank — was being "Mr. know it all." He told Colin MacRae as much, but the Chief Engineer was initially hesitant to agree with his friend. In fact, Colin told Gary that he actually "like[d]" working with Chase.
"He didn't tell you how to do things?" Gary responded, explaining that Chase "just doesn't listen" to him. "I don't know if he's trying to prove anything, but just f--king get over it."
Once Colin saw firsthand what the dynamic was like between Gary and the Season 4 newcomer, he started to understand where Gary was coming from, telling him, "I see what you mean."
At the same time, Colin also understands that it's up to Gary to lead Chase in the right direction. As he put it in a confessional, "Chase has got huge potential. If harnessed in the right way, he's gonna be the biggest asset on deck. But that's gonna require some guidance and leadership from Gary."
In short, "Gary needs to just man up," Colin added.
Whether or not Gary and Chase's situation will improve remains to be seen, but based on the final moments of the new episode, the two have a long way to go. Venting to Colin yet again, Gary said, "I've been doing this for a long time. I've been on this boat for a long time, as d--kish as that sounds."
Colin agreed that Gary of all people "know[s] how this boat f--king works," but in trying to help resolve the situation, he added, "In my experience, when someone's like that in my department, the only way to deal with it is to nip it in the bud. 'Cause while you were away, I think him and Alex got a bit of a system happening and then you come along and have different ideas..."
But before Colin could finish, Gary interjected, "Tough luck."
"We'll see how it goes," he added.
Indeed we will!
