Armie Hammer Says Johnny Depp "Lives on an Entirely Different Planet"
The actor talked about his Lone Ranger co-star's eccentricities on #WWHL.
Armie Hammer, who stars as the titular character in the movie The Lone Ranger, appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Thursday night, alongside Chelsea Handler. Thanks to that role, Armie has had access to someone who is alway of particular interest: Johnny Depp, whose recent spending habits have become a topic of conversation in Hollywood. You see, Johnny played Tonto, the Long Ranger’s sidekick, in the film.
So naturally, one audience member at WWHL tried to pump Armie for any info he had on Johnny from their time together on set, asking, “We have read that Johnny Depp has some very bizarre monthly expenses. What is the most bizarre thing you’ve seen him do on the set of The Lone Ranger?”
“Pass,” said Armie, laughing. Then he rallied and seemed to want to defend some of Johnny's eccentricities — though unfortunately he didn’t really elaborate on what they were.
“So here’s the deal,” explained Armie, “Yes, the guy lives an extravagant lifestyle. There’s no way around it. But he also lives on like an entirely other planet, something I have no idea about. Nobody here has any idea the planet this guy lives on.”
And he doesn’t just mean eccentric. Armie explained that the level of Johnny’s celebrity is outside even what most other famous people understand. “We’d be somewhere in public and it would turn into a riot, and people would try to pull out his hair,” he added.
“It was just, it’s a crazy world,” Armie continued, “so when you go to a restaurant, they have to close down part of the restaurant. It sounds extravagant but it’s also...”
“It sounds intense,” interrupted Chelsea, when it seemed like Armie couldn’t come up with the right word.
“It’s super intense,” Armie agreed.
