All the Details on Kandi Burruss' Wedding
The dress, the cake, and Mama Joyce—inside her over-the-top $400,000 bash.
Leave it to Kandi Burruss to throw a wedding ceremony for the ages!
The newlywed tied the knot with Todd Tucker on April 4th in Atlanta with an over-the-top ceremony and reception attended by family, friends and her Real Housewives of Atlanta co-stars—and now she's sharing details of the event.
Kandi opened up to In Touch about the bash and says, "The whole thing was like a fairy tale."
She's not kidding. The magazine reports the event cost $400,000. The couple splurged on an over-the-top ceremony modeled after the Eddie Murphy movie Coming to America. "[It's] an homage to Africa, where we first met," she says.
The bride wore a custom $20,000 Reco Chapple gown (complete with a 12-foot train) and Christian Louboutin's 5-inch Body Strass crystal-studded transparent stilettos. Her bridesmaids—Tameka 'Tiny' Harris, Fantasia Barrino, matron-of-honor Tamera Wynn, maid-of-honor Carmon Cambrice, Rasheeda Frost, Phaedra Parks and Joyce Dallas—stunned in differing white gowns.
There were plenty of celebrity guests on hand too, including Porsha Williams, Monica, The Cosby Show's Keshia Knight Pulliam, and Cynthia Bailey. (NeNe Leakes was tied up with taping Dancing With the Stars in Los Angeles.) "Kandi's dress was so unique," Keshia said. "I wouldn't expect anything less from her."
Though Kandi admits she "didn't know if I was going to be able to pull this all together," the reception went off without a hitch. Guests noshed on soul food and sushi; for dessert, they sampled pieces of the $2,500 seven-tier key lime, vanilla and chocolate cake, which was adorned in jewels. Afterwards, the Grammy-winning songwriter and her beau—whose first dance was to R. Kelly's "Forever"—boogied to performances by Doug E. Fresh, Musiq Soulchild and Bell Biv Devoe until 2 in the morning.
Oh yeah: there were also lions outside the entrance to greet all the guests!
Perhaps the biggest question: what did Mama Joyce, who has vocally opposed Kandi and Todd's union and called the groom "an opportunist," think of the wedding? "I had mixed emotions," she says. Still, she's hoping for the best with the two: "Time will tell if Todd gets my blessing but if Kandi's happy, then I need to be happy for her."
Adds the bride: "Todd is the man of my dreams and the one I know I'm supposed to be with for the rest of my life. I'm so excited for our future together!"
