Jeff Bezos Just Finalized His Divorce — And Here's How Much MacKenzie Bezos' 19.7 Million Amazon Shares Are Worth
A judge in King County, Washington, signed an order finalizing their separation on Friday, July 5.
UPDATE (July 8, 2019 10:30 a.m.) MaKenzie and Jeff Bezos are officially divorced. A judge in King County, Washington, signed an order finalizing their separation on Friday, July 5. MacKenzie will keep a four percent stake in Amazon (19.7 million shares) worth $38.3 billion, PEOPLE confirms.
The original story continues below.
Jeff Bezos announced his divorce in a way that befits a technology titan: He shared the news via Twitter. A January 9 tweet shared a joint statement from the Amazon founder and his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie Bezos. And before we share more on that, let us just warn you: The amount this divorce will cost is pretty staggering.
The surprising tweet read, in part: "After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends. We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other." And then, the couple added this touching, evolved sentiment: "If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again." (Pause for tissue.)

Evolved decency aside, we also have some scoop on how much this divorce is going to cost. TMZ has it that $137 billion is on the line, here. (Actually, they wrote it as "a record $137 BILLION," just in case you missed that B.) As the publication pointed out, since the couple lives in Washington — a community property state — they will likely split accrued assets 50/50. Unless, of course, there is a prenup.
Maybe we'll find out in Bezos's next tweet? Yeah, probably not.
