Are Ina Garten and Stephen Colbert the Next Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg?
Dare to dream.
It all started, as so many things do these days, with a Tweet.
Late Night Show host Stephen Colbert kicked things off earlier this month by Tweeting at celeb chef Ina Garten: “Hey @inagarten, saw you baked elephant ears. Thought we had plans? Had to make them alone. (easy & delicious, thanks for the recipe!).”
He then followed up with a couple more Tweets, posting: “I’m really enjoying my copy of @inagarten’s “Cooking for Jeffrey,” but noticed there’s still no release date on “Cooking for Stephen?”
Ina got the message and playfully Tweeted back a photo of her latest cookbook cover, with an image of Stephen photoshopped over her hubby Jeffrey's face.
"Next book IS Cooking for Stephen! Truffled scrambled eggs or Twinkie French toast with Waffle House gravy? Come cook with me! @StephenAtHome," she posted.
A few days later, we got the news that Ina has a brand-new cooking show in the works. Called Cook Like a Pro, it will debut on Food Network in mid-May.
Which got us thinking…can we please please prettyplease have Stephen Colbert join Ina Garten on her show to form the greatest cooking duo since Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg? Here's why we think these two would be brilliant together.
1. They've Got a Similar Dynamic as Martha and Snoop
The reason Martha and Snoop are so mesmerizing on Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party is that they're polar opposites; she's the straight man to his comic relief. You never know what Snoop will say next, and how Martha will react to it. Ina and Stephen are also opposites; she's the buttoned-up hostess-with-the-mostest who entertains with ease and lives in an idyllic Hamptons world of flattering lighting and farmstands, while Stephen is the button-pushing hilarious loose cannon, apt to say or do anything at any point in time.
2. There's Beef Between Ina and Martha
Way back in the day, before Ina Garten and Barefoot Contessa were household names, Ina and Martha were pals—in fact, Martha wrote the forward to Ina's very first cookbook. Pre-Food Network, Ina tried to sell a cooking show to Martha Stewart Living and shot a few episodes, but Martha allegedly didn't want another female star on her channel. The two have notoriously been on the outs ever since.
Now, of course, Ina is arguably just as successful as Martha, with a popular TV show and several best-selling cookbooks under her belt. Having Ina follow in Martha's footsteps once again would be adding fascinating fuel to the fire.

We'd love to see Ina pretend to ride an imaginary galloping horse.
