Alli Dore Opens up About the BDSY Moment She Was "Dreading" Watching Back
The Below Deck Sailing Yacht stew opened up about her struggles with body image and a time when "[she] didn't treat [her] body with the respect [she does] now."
In the March 8 episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2, Alli Dore shared a vulnerable moment with Daisy Kelliher. Alli opened up about feeling insecure in her swimsuit before joining the rest of the crew in the hot tub. In a recent Instagram post, Alli reflected on this moment further and talked about her body image struggles and how seeing herself on TV has been "really healing."
Alli's June 4 post featured a series of photos of herself throughout the years. The first image captured Alli looking happy in a pink snake-print bikini. "This photo was taken on our crew day off and I remember dreading this episode airing because I felt insecure about being in a bikini on camera for an entire day," she wrote.
She continued, "The conversation I had with [Daisy] the first night we got in the hot tub, I expressed my body insecurities to her and we managed to laugh it off and find the confidence I needed to get out there in front of the cameras. This is a confidence I really struggled to find in the past. That moment was also super bonding for Daisy and I and I love her for her realness in that."
Offering a more personal look at her journey, Alli also shared photos from a "very different" period in her life. "These were taken during a time when I didn't treat my body with the respect I do now," she wrote. "I didn't eat much, I thought being skinny was the only way to be confident. These dark little demons are hard to fight and I know how many women (and men!) can relate to that mentality which for some can push you to forget how to love the skin you're in."
Alli then went on to explain how her mindset has since evolved. "Now, my priority isn't to be as thin as I can, it is to fuel my body with healthy plant-based nutrients and [prioritize] fitness and being active for my mental wellbeing, lifestyle, and enjoyment, not solely to lose weight. My body changed so much since I turned my life around and just getting used to a different body type was a whole journey in itself. But being fit and [prioritizing] nutrition means I get to enjoy life in a way that makes my heart sing."
She added, "Sharing my vulnerabilities in this post is still a little scary for me, but if I can inspire just one person with my journey then that makes it all worth it. Love yourself."
