6 Outrageous Cakes We Can't Believe Exist in Real Life

Padma Lakshmi celebrated the 4th of July in a place she knows well: the kitchen. The host of Bravo's Top Chef and her eight-year-old daughter Krishna participated in a challenge of their own, attempting to create a gorgeous, frosted replica of the American flag. And as you'll see, their results were winning indeed.

How to Watch

In a holiday Instagram post, Padma described the cake confection she held in front of her. "We just made a very simple sponge cake," Padma said humbly as her daughter attempted to pluck a raspberry off the top of it.

Pulling the cake away playfully, Padma continued: "And then, little greedy hands and I decorated it. We made a cream cheese frosting, which we piped. And then, as you can see, we laid down a layer... of blueberries, and then we did stars with the piping, and then we just did two rows with the raspberries, and then a few rows of piped white frosting." Of note — and as Krishna pointed out — it was Padma's mini me who did the piping.

Take a look at the cake:

In her caption, Padma addressed her stance on current events. "Today thousands of mothers across the country are not able to be with their children because of Trump’s inhumane zero-tolerance immigration policy- they are still displaced, lost in a sea of red tape," she said. She then urged her followers to make a donation to ACLU or RAICES.
