The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills husband's special day for Dorit included fancy food, lavish decor, and a $5,000,000 necklace.
On the Season 13 premiere of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Dorit Kemsley opened up about going through a hard time with Paul "PK" Kemsley. Because it hadn't been the easiest year for the couple, when it came time to celebrate their anniversary on Season 13, Episode 2, PK went all out on a lavish surprise for Dorit.
"We haven't had the best year of our marriage, and I want to really recognize Dorit and my anniversary," PK said in an interview during the episode, which aired on November 1. To pull off his plan, he asked Kyle Richards to help.
"I want you to pick Dorit up and take her for lunch at the iconic Beverly Wilshire Hotel," he told Kyle. "I'm gonna recreate the movie Pretty Woman."
Although Kyle admitted PK's plan was "maybe not the best idea," she was happy to assist. When Kyle and Dorit entered their room at the hotel, they found a red rose, a note from PK, fruit platters, and champagne. Although it took Dorit a moment to put together what movie PK was trying to emulate, she said, "Oh, PK, you gotta be kidding me, honey. "
"Pretty Woman, they sat down for breakfast and he said, 'I took the liberty of ordering everything on the menu,'" Dorit quipped in an interview. "I gotta pour my own water, I gotta lay out my own fruit. This does not scream, 'Hello! It's your anniversary!'"
However, once Dorit's glam team walked in, she declared, "It's getting better."
Dorit explained that due to her PTSD diagnosis following her terrifying home invasion in 2021, surprises can cause a great deal of "anxiety" for her. After speaking to her kids and ensuring they were being taken care of, she felt better about moving on with the day.
After selecting one of the red dresses that PK had sent over, and getting her hair and makeup done, Dorit was ready for the next stage of the surprise. "This is like so exciting and so nerve-wracking," she said, adding in an interview, "The last few hours have definitely been anxiety-provoking. So just like Julia Roberts in the movie, I'm gonna leave my reality behind for one night and live out my movie fantasy."
As Dorit explained, the lavish setup wasn't totally unexpected: "PK and I have always been big on surprising one another and big, grand reveals."
PK Kemsley's Pretty Woman surprise for Dorit Kemsley
When Dorit finally met PK at the hotel bar, he had a special gift waiting for her. As he showed Dorit a $5,000,000 Peter Marco diamond necklace, he recited one of Richard Gere's famous lines from Pretty Woman, "Don't get too excited about this, because it's on loan," and, as the actor did in the movie, he snapped the box shut. "I was bedazzled by you," he added.
With that, the couple entered another room filled with candles and red roses. "I wanted to take your breath away like you do mine," he said, motioning to Berlin performing "Take My Breath Away." (As the episode noted, the song is from the Top Gun soundtrack, not Pretty Woman.)
"It's quite a good idea, isn't it?" PK asked in an interview. "Take iconic songs and put them in different movies."
After they shared a sweet dance, they sat down for caviar and drinks. "I've got your drink already prepared," PK said. "I've just got to do this stuff you do with the carcass out business." For those who need a refresher, as Dorit explained in 2020, her now-iconic drink of choice is "Belvedere, club soda, three lemons, carcass out."
Although the surprise initially caused Dorit a bit of stress, once she was able to enjoy it with PK, she appreciated the sweet details. "It's been such a difficult year all around, and this is so much better," she said. "That's the reality."
Julia Roberts' reaction to PK Kemsley's Pretty Woman surprise for Dorit Kemsley
Although Dorit was happy with PK's Pretty Woman themed anniversary surprise, actress Julia Roberts thought differently about the act. While appearing on the December 7 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, host Andy Cohen asked Julia for her opinion on PK's romantic gesture.
"I blocked it out until this moment," Julia said about the situation. "It was very strange, wasn't it?"
Even Andy agreed with Julia by replying, "Yes, it was odd."
