Dorit Kemsley and PK Unpack What Really Led to Their Split: "It's Extreme"
Dorit and PK opened up about the "moment" they realized it was time to take a break from their marriage on the Season 14 premiere of RHOBH.
Suffice to say it's not all hunky dory between Dorit Kemsley and estranged husband Paul "PK" Kemsley.
On The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Season 14 premiere, which aired Nov. 19, Dorit shed new light on her decision to split from PK in a candid conversation with Kathy Hilton. One of the biggest reasons, according to Dorit, is that PK is a "full-blown alcoholic."
Meanwhile, across town, PK was meeting with Kyle Richards' soon-to-be ex-husband Mauricio Umansky. In his retelling of their separation, PK explained that he is now sober, which helped him realize he and Dorit "were just taking bites out of each other the whole f-cking time" they were married.
"I had a lot of resentment," he continued. "Dorit isn't the most able to listen. She's not."
But Dorit said she is a good listener, and PK is just avoidant when it comes to problems that arose in their marriage. And while she was committed to staying in the marriage, Dorit said that PK wasn't willing to "work it out."
"I chose to stick by PK's side through a bunch of public scrutiny," she added in a confessional. "But for PK, it's poof — let's just get a separation. Isn't there a way to meet in the middle? Obviously, but not with someone like PK. It's black, it's white; It's extreme."
PK, for his part, also said that he was also feeling financial pressures while married to Dorit. "She could say, 'Well, you were away,' and I could say, 'Well, I was working,' and trying to sustain the lifestyle that Dorit and I live. And also to sustain her ambition," he told Mauricio.
Ultimately, PK acknowledged that he had his own issues to work through — sobriety in particular — but that he could only do so with time and space from Dorit.
Did Dorit or PK initiate their separation?
Dorit explained to Erika Jayne on the RHOBH Season 14 premiere that PK's drinking had gotten "progressively worse," and this prompted the couple to have a serious conversation about the future of their marriage.
"There was no catastrophic event, no one cheated on anyone. A week ago, there was a moment and it was over nothing. One thing led to another and we sat down like two very mature adults who love and care about one another and mutually decided that taking some space and separating is the best thing for us," Dorit explained.
Not just the best for them, but their kids, Jagger and Phoenix, too — though the kids are currently unaware of the split as PK and Dorit are trying to maintain a sense of normalcy.
"We can be doing things as a family. We're not in a toxic place," Dorit insisted.
Does Dorit want to get back together with PK?
So far, that's still a major TBD, according to Dorit.
"I'll be honest, I think that in order for PK and I to consider reconciliation, we would have to do work," Dorit explained on Page Six's Virtual Reali-tea podcast on Nov. 13. "I think for PK and I to rush back into reconciliation, we would do ourselves a disservice because we got here. And I think that the idea was to take some time apart to reassess to do the work and either come back stronger and better and sure or to find a way to make sure that communication is always at its best."
Are Dorit and PK divorced?
As of November 2024, neither Dorit nor PK have filed for divorce since announcing their split in May 2024.
