Dorit Kemsley Explains Her "Love Affair" with Vintage Fashion
"It has a history, and that makes it feel more meaningful," the RHOBH fashionista told Vogue about her archival fashion.
Dorit Kemsley is a true style chameleon — and that doesn't only pertain to her ever-changing hairstyles. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member has a closet brimming with designer fashion. And while some of her pieces are fresh off the runways, Dorit also has a taste for clothing with a history.
In fact, for a recent charity event she hit with some other 'Wives, the fashionista rocked an all-black look mixing pieces from Dior and Dolce & Gabbana. "Another vintage love affair," she tagged her outfit-of-the-day snap.
When dishing on her famous style with Vogue, the bridal designer said: "The thing that I’ve always loved about vintage is that whenever you get a piece, you know that it contains so many memories, even if you have no idea who has worn it or where it’s been. It has a history, and that makes it feel more meaningful.”
Dorit shared that spending more time at home over the past year gave her more time to study up on archival looks. "The nice thing now is that we’re living in an age where all that information is so accessible,” she said. “It’s really just a matter of having time on your hands, and COVID gave a little bit more time to watch those old runway shows and go deeper and deeper and deeper.”
Meanwhile, Dorit's vintage collection is only growing. “I think buying vintage is definitely a thing of the future, not the past, as people recognize it's a way to be environmentally conscious,” she said. “I'm a baby fashion collector really, but I’m a fashion collector that likes to actually wear the pieces. You can purchase these pieces and keep them perfect and ready to sit in a museum, or you can wear them like I do. I might get a little bit of makeup on it or something, but I want to enjoy it, because for me, it’s like candy to a kid.”
