Porsha Williams Explains How She Strategically Dresses for a Protest
The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member details how she prepares to attend a protest.
Porsha Williams has been on the frontlines of the Black Lives Matter movement, and has participated in numerous protests in the wake of George Floyd's and Breonna Taylor's deaths. The Real Housewives of Atlanta activist has experienced being tear gassed and arrested, which is why Porsha takes great precautions when getting ready to attend a demonstration.
"I have on two pair of pants in case I want to take a pair off," the mom recently shared in a New York Times feature. Porsha wears two shirts, "in case I need to take one off and run, so you can’t identify me." She also writes telephone numbers on her arm, in case she is jailed.
With the exception of layering, Porsha keeps her outfit and belongings as minimal as possible. She only carries a lip balm (which she tucks into her waistband) and identification (which she tucks into her bra). "And I wear a face covering because we are in a pandemic!" she added.
Porsha's work as an activist is far from over. She continues to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather, Civil Rights activist Rev. Hosea William. In late July, Porsha shared a photo of herself "in class learning 6 Steps of Kingian Nonviolence," most likely referring to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s philosophy, "The Six Principles of Nonviolence."
Most recently, Porsha joined fellow Bravolebs during Bravo’s roundtable discussion Race in America: a Movement Not a Moment (see above), where she shed light on racism that is prevalent in the medical community.
