Rick Astley Is Opening a Bar (and This Is Not a Rickroll!)
Mikkeller Bar London is set to open in October from Rick Astley and microbrewery owner Mikkel Borg Bjergsø.
Imagine opening a bar with your childhood music idol. (We'll wait.)
It's the stuff of (surreal) fantasies — but it's also now reality for microbrewery owner Mikkel Borg Bjergsø. He met his childhood idol Rick Astley a few years ago when they collaborated on a beer, Astley’s Northern Hop Lager. From there, a partnership grew — and now the pair are opening a bar together in London. Mikkeller Bar London is slated to open on October 19.
Rick Astley himself actually broke the news on Twitter.
Mikkel Borg Bjergsø is from legendary Copenhagen craft brewery Mikkelle which opened in 2006. Locations now exist in New York and San Diego as well. The location with Astley will be the first one in the U.K. Bjergsø shared news of the opening on Facebook.
"We have finally found a fantastic location in the Shoreditch district that suits us perfectly. Meanwhile, we have been fortunate to get to know Rick Astley and his wife Lene Bausager Astley, so now we have also found the perfect partners”, says CEO and founder of Mikkeller, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø Of course, we always prefer to work together with people who have a driving force and heart. It’s a huge plus if we also have a personal relationship with them."
