Katie Maloney Has an Update on Her Friendship with Ex Tom Schwartz
The Vanderpump Rules cast member also detailed why she wouldn’t ever get back with her ex.
Vanderpump Rules’ Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz have pressed pause on their friendship.
Katie revealed as much during Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Wednesday, March 15. “We put our friendship on hold,” she said. “We’re not kiki-ing.”
The exes are still in communication, though — but “just about the dogs,” Katie shared, referring to their two pups, Butter and Gordo VonFriendenheimer. As fans may recall, she and Tom agreed to “split custody” of them after the former couple announced their split in March 2022. Tom has even jokingly referred to the dogs as “children of divorce.”
Said divorce is currently playing out on Vanderpump Rules Season 10. As Katie revealed during the premiere, “After 12 years together and five years of marriage, I went to Tom last winter and asked him for a divorce.”
“We’ve had a lot of issues,” she added. “I’ve never been a priority to him.”
A WWHL viewer inquired about this on Wednesday’s show, asking Katie, “Would you consider getting back with Schwartz if he was remorseful and promised to fully prioritize your relationship?”
“Words, words, words. No,” Katie responded. “He would need to be lobotomized and completely act different.”
She went on to open up more about the struggles she faced while married to Tom, including his apparent infidelity. “It’s embarrassing is what it is. It’s called being a broken woman and having your self[-esteem] be so beaten down… and feeling like your worth is so low,” Katie said, getting emotional. “The writing’s all on the walls, you just can’t see it and you want to just justify it all away.”
“So, for anyone who feels that way, you deserve better,” she concluded. “Just know it.”
Tom, for his part, has also been open about the divorce on this season of Vanderpump Rules. Recalling the moment Katie broached the subject, he said, “She laid it all out, and it made perfect sense. I can’t probably give you the specifics, because I was so upset, I wasn’t really listening. But also, I don’t want to ask her again, because one of the reasons she broke up with me was because I’m not a good listener.”
“Long story short, I just didn’t know how to make her happy,” Tom concluded.
Katie’s latest update on where they stand is in stark contrast to her and Tom’s previous assertions that they wanted to remain friends. As she put it last May, “We still do things together… He’s family to me, and I’m always going to love him, so our friendship is very important to both of us.”
Added Tom in August, “I’m happy that we’re still close. I think, relatively speaking, we’ve done a damn good job divorcing each other.”
