When it comes to courtship, Tom Schwartz is admittedly “old school.”

How to Watch

Watch Vanderpump Rules on Peacock and the Bravo app.

As he approaches his second year of single life, the Vanderpump Rules cast member spoke candidly about his dating experience and why he prefers to make romantic connections face-to-face rather than online. He told People magazine he had heard several “success stories” about dating apps and decided to try one out in 2023.

Although he kept details to a minimum, Tom said he found the platform to be a scary “novelty," so much so he ultimately deleted the app within a few days and pledged to "never download it again."

Tom Schwartz explains why he avoids dating apps

“I had Hinge last season for three days. It was terrifying,” he said, before sharing his preferred method of meeting new people. “I’m old school. I like to go to the bars, the restaurants. I like serendipity. I want to bump into someone and be like, ‘Oh, my God.’”

He continued: “There’s a lot of people in my life who met on dating apps and they’re married, and for me, it’s not me. I’m new school and I’m old school, but when it comes to dating, I’m old school, man. Serendipity. I wanna bump into you, have a drink, have a laugh, you know.”

Tom Schwartz's ex-wife, Katie Maloney, shares an update on her love life

Tom went on to confirm he isn’t dating at the moment, unlike his castmate/ex-wife, Katie Maloney. The former SURver also dished on her love life during a Vanderpump Rules Season 11 premiere party, revealing she approached 2023 with a “single and ready to mingle” mentality.

“This season you’ll see a couple of potential people, and it’s all just trying different things on and seeing what works and see what doesn’t,” Katie told BravoTV.com, adding that she was also enjoying the single life. “I’m so good on my own and I don’t need anyone. So it’s like in order for me to disrupt the peace and solitude and good things I have going on, unless you’re like pretty spectacular, and like so far, [no].”

Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney's Separation

Tom and Katie began dating in 2011 and tied the knot in 2019. The former couple announced their split roughly two years later and finalized their divorce about 15 months ago. Katie explained the decision during a 2022 appearance on the You’re Going to Love Me podcast, saying it was she who initiated the separation.

“There wasn’t some crazy fight that resulted in this,” she said. “It was my decision, which was probably the hardest and most painful decision I’ve ever had to make. But [it was] the best and only way I can describe it is just waking up and having this voice that just became louder and louder. [Also] just events in my life and in our relationship coming into focus and feeling the weight of them on me.”
