Is Amber Rose Team Kanye or Team Taylor?
Yeezy's ex responds to the ongoing feud between the rapper and pop superstar.
After Kim Kardashian released video footage of Kanye West asking for permission from Taylor Swift to reference her in his track, "Famous," the response from celebrities, critics, and fans has been overwhelming. And now one of Kanye's exes, Amber Rose, is coming to the rapper's defense — kind of. Despite their tumultuous past, Amber recalled the fallout that Kanye felt following the now-infamous 2009 VMAs incident during which he crashed Taylor's acceptance speech.
"So, I'm not the biggest fan of Kanye, but I will say this I was next to him at the VMAs that year. I remember the repercussions after that," Amber said in a preview of her talk show The Amber Rose Show, via People. "I remember Taylor's mother and father coming up to us and saying, 'One day Kanye, you'll have a daughter and somebody is going to do that to you.' He was so remorseful. I mean he really felt so bad, because it wasn't about Taylor. It was about Beyoncé and her video ... We all know [Beyoncé's "Single Ladies"] should have won that. It's not shade. He didn't want to interrupt Taylor – he didn't even know who she was at the time."
Following that stage crash, Kanye definitely wasn't let off the hook by other stars in the industry, Amber added. "It was just a very hard time for him, and I was around to see that. I watched Lady Gaga cancel the tour. I watched people say that they did not want to work with him anymore because of it," she said. "And he really went through a lot of bulls*** and I know that Kanye would never ever go through that again by not calling Taylor and say, 'Heads up, I'm about to kind of go write this verse real quick. Just wanted to make sure you're cool with it.' I know that about Kanye."
While she stands up for Kanye when it comes to the way he handled Taylor in terms of the "Famous" reference, she had a completely different take when it came to the video release, which feaured a wax statue of her (as well as other celebs) naked in bed with the rapper. "So, I say all of that to say, why didn't I get a phone call for using a naked wax figure in your video Kanye? I mean, Taylor gets a call but I don't get a call. So please stay the f*** out of the news so I don't need to talk about your ass anymore."
