Jarrett "JT" Thomas Opens Up on His First Marriage and His "Painful" Divorce
Plus, find out what the Southern Charm Season 9 newcomer is hoping for in his love life.
Southern Charm newcomer Jarrett "JT" Thomas is looking for love in Charleston after seemingly finding it elsewhere, only to be left with a broken heart.
He revealed as much during Season 9, Episode 6 on October 19 as part of an emotional conversation with his mom; one that marked the first time he had opened up about his former marriage and subsequent divorce on the show.
The topic arose after JT explained, "I have a good life. I should be happy. But my whole life was building a career, building a business, and doing an event space, and I can't do this much longer, if that makes sense. As you know, I'm about to turn 38 and I don't have a wife or a girlfriend."
"Granted, I did have a first at-bat if you will," he added of his first marriage. "Just, I botched that one, you know?"
To hear JT elaborate and share additional details about the relationship, as well as his goals for the future and what sort of advice his mom had for him, keep reading.
Jarrett "JT" Thomas' First Marriage
As JT revealed in an interview confessional, he and his ex-wife said "I do" when he was just 22 years old. "We lasted about four or five years," he noted. After that, JT got divorced and moved to Charleston.
"It's all worked out now," he said, "but it was a painful time."
How Jarrett "JT" Thomas Feels About His Ex-Wife
JT and his first wife may be divorced, but it seems as though there's no love lost between the two. As he said in another confessional, "I really loved my ex-wife, but I just don't think people should get married when you're 22."
Suffice to say, JT's mom agreed with that assertion. Back in conversation with her, she said of her son's ex, "She was gorgeous and lovely as a human, and you are too, but you guys were just children."
As a result, JT admitted, "I often wonder if I had met her at 30, would it have been different? Because I would've been more mature."
His mom's response? "Absolutely. You know why? Because to be married, you have to have all those other skills that oftentimes 22-year-old people don't have."
Jarrett "JT" Thomas' Hopes for the Future of His Love Life
JT may be hesitant to get his heart broken again, but that's not going to stop him from trying to find "the one." As he put it, "I would like to try again, but I want to make sure the second time around, I get it right."
"I know how hard it is to find someone, and I know that if you're gonna get married, you do it with someone that you're not gonna have buyer's remorse with," JT added, getting emotional, "because I never want to go through that again."
Thankfully, as JT teared up, his mom was there to provide some comforting words: "When it's right, it's gonna be right for some incredibly lucky person. And really, it'll work out however it works out, but it's no reflection on you; not on your person."
