Porsha Reflects on Her Work with the Black Lives Matter Movement Featured on RHOA
RHOA cast member Porsha Williams' work left WWHL host Andy Cohen "moved to tears."
When Season 13 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta premiered on December 6, it may have been one of the most emotional episodes to date, highlighting all aspects of the cast's lives, including how the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic changed their routines and how the Black Lives Matter movement inspired members of the cast to speak out on social injustice.
And no one's voice was louder than Porsha Williams', who has been at the forefront of the movement, attending protest after protest to spark change. Porsha noted during her December 6 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that she was so encouraged by the fact that the social activism happening in the country this year was such a big part of the episode.
"The biggest takeaway for me and the main reason I'm so proud of our network, Bravo, for featuring this on the show, it's our reality. It's what we're dealing with right now, and that's what people want to see. Not just one side, all of the sides — and Black Lives Matter is in the forefront. I want people to see that I'm a normal, regular person in an extraordinary situation where I have this platform, but we all have a voice. I would encourage everybody to keep the movement going," Porsha said.
Later on during her WWHL appearance, Porsha added, "I love the fact that you all talked about Breonna Taylor and you are giving us this voice, giving us this platform, and I appreciate the support of the other Housewives. You saw Kandi [Burruss] and Cynthia [Bailey and] all that was real time. It's really touching to have the kind of support that I've received from my family here."
Porsha's social activism and subsequent arrests were featured in Sunday's premiere, which left Andy Cohen in his feelings.
"I don't ever remember being as proud of a Real Housewife as I was watching you in tonight's episode. I was moved to tears, and it was incredible," he said on Sunday's WWHL of watching Porsha's work as an activist in the Black Lives Matter movement, which was taking place while she was filming RHOA.
Porsha noted that it's important for fans to see her social activism on RHOA because "we need to see the world reflected in our show, and that is our responsibility and we did that."
