Yes, That Was Joe Simpson on Vanderpump Rules... and He Is a Professional Photographer Now
Find out what Jessica and Ashlee Simpson's dad had to say about his new career behind the camera.
No, you weren't hallucinating when you saw Joe Simpson, father of Ashlee and Jessica Simpson, pop up on Vanderpump Rules this week. In fact, Tom Schwartz was also pretty surprised that Tom Sandoval enlisted the former music manager to be the guy he hired to take some new photos of him as he embarked on the next chapter of his modeling career. But Tom shouldn't have been all that shocked. It turns out Joe has been hard at work on his photography career for some time now.
According to PEOPLE, Joe had his first show, dubbed "Dream Works," last May at the Bruce Lurie gallery in Los Angeles. That debut show was, of course, attended by his A-list daughters and their husbands, Eric Johnson (Jessica's hubby) and Evan Ross (Ashlee's husband), as well as longtime family friends Cacee Cobb and her husband Donald Faison.
“I’ve always loved being behind the camera. I was even the photographer at my own wedding when I was 19! There is something about taking pictures that makes me happy, and it has always been a hobby for me," he shared at the time. “It wasn’t until a couple of years ago, that I started spending time taking photos professionally. Landing my first editorial job was huge! It has been amazing to have credit in the space and people who respect my work.”
According to the biography posted on his official website, Joe is inspired by one of the most recognizable faces in the pop art world when it comes to his work. "His body of work, is inspired from the Warhol Factory times of Pop Art, alludes to both California cool, and calculated brand creation," the biography states. "It embraces clichés and styles that exude the hygienic optimism endemic to the local LA art scene."
And if anyone is California cool, Sandoval fits the bill.
