Dr. Lee Gause Weighs In on Mayweather's Mouthguard
The 'Singles Project' star creates a piece of art to protect the boxer's 'perfect smile.'
If there’s one thing you should know about Floyd Mayweather Jr., it’s that he puts his money where his mouth is. Literally.
The prize fighter is facing off against Manny Pacquiao in this weekend’s highly anticipated match, and there’s one thing that’s potentially going to steal his shine: his mouthguard, custom made by the Singles Project’s Dr. Lee Gause.
Dr. Lee was commissioned by Mayweather to create perfect protective pieces and these aren’t your every day mouthguards. One features actual $100 bills, another with gold foil and diamond dust.
As for which one he’s going to dawn on Saturday, even Dr. Lee doesn’t know. ”I’ve never known which one he’s going to wear,” he tells Grantland. “I always see when he comes out which one he is wearing.”
After flying back and forth from NYC to Las Vegas, Dr. Lee created an array of pricey pieces to choose from. “For this fight, he’s going to have like 20 mouthguards,” he reveals. Price tag? A cool $25,000.
The dentist has been in attendance for all four of Floyd’s previous Sin City bouts and he explains that it’s not just entertainment to him. “I’m watching the fight from a different perspective from everyone else,” he says. “I’m just watching the mouthguard to see how it performs.”
That doesn’t mean that he’s not backing his buddy in the ring. Dr. Lee is pretty confident who’s going to come out victorious. “I know Floyd is going to win,” he says.
