"Stab Them with a Heel in Both Eyes": The Dancing Queens Cast Teases Show's Drama

Expect hot dance moves and heated drama on Dancing Queens, the newest show airing on Bravo.
That’s the inside scoop from the Latin ballroom dancers whose intense preparation for a coveted championship is covered every step of the way in the new series.
The six highly competitive amateur dancers (Gaëlle Benchetrit, Leonie Biggs, Donie Burch, Pooja Mehta, Colette Marotto and Sabrina Strasser) all bring their A-game to every competition. They come ready to rumba – and to rumble.
“We want the prize,” Gaëlle told The Daily Dish at a Dancing Queens premiere screening. “This is the big drama — who’s gonna win — and we fight hard. Because all of us want the same [thing]. We want to win. That’s it!”
Making all that fast-moving fancy footwork look sexy and effortless doesn’t come easily. It takes hours of practice, obsessive commitment, prioritizing, and thousands of dollars and that leads to pressure.
“It’s crazy how we invest ourselves,” Gaëlle said. But that goes hand-in-hand with the deep desire to win.
Dancing Queens covers the run-up to a Pro-Am Latin Ballroom championship, which combines amateur dancers competing with professional partners. There’s bound to be problems in such a high-pressure relationship.
Sabrina danced around the notion of drama with fellow Dancing Queens, though. "Maybe not necessarily between each one of us, but you'll have to watch to see. But I know that I’ve had my fair share of drama with my partner and sometimes my husband,” she told The Daily Dish. “Sometimes on the dance floor, we’re actually yelling in each other’s ear, ‘What did you do?!’ But you’ve got to keep it together so that everybody watching doesn’t notice.”
She also elaborated on the issues with her pro partner.
“There have been moments where we want to kill each other,” she said.
“Stab them with the heel,” said correspondent Stephanie Gomulka, referencing one of Sabrina’s unfiltered and unforgettable comments in the series premiere.
“Absolutely,” Sabrina said, gleefully half-joking. “In both eyes.”
Such drama — and there’s more where that came from. Even with the rollercoaster of challenges and emotions, the thrill of competing at a high level makes it all worth it, according to Donie.
“The feeling you get when you’re on the dance floor,” she told The Daily Dish, “you can’t describe it. You have to experience it.”
"It gives you such an adrenaline rush that you want to come back for more," Leonie agreed.
We can't wait to see what happens next in Dancing Queens.
