These 2 Jersey ‘Wives Just Crashed an Event — All to Learn How to Find a "Sexy" Partner
Cast members from the new Bravo series Dancing Queens dished on what it takes to find the perfect dancing partner.
The ladies of Bravo’s new series Dancing Queens arrived for the red carpet premiere, but leave it to The Real Housewives of New Jersey women to shake things up!
The competitive world of Latin ballroom dancing takes center stage in Dancing Queens, featuring Colette Marotto, Donie Burch, Gaëlle Benchetrit, Leonie Biggs, Pooja Mehta, and Sabrina Strasser. Much of the series covers the women trying to navigate balancing their dance passion and their personal lives. But it also focuses on the friendships and dramas with their professional male (and often very handsome) dancing partners.
The Dancing Queens cast spoke with Gibson Johns of Yahoo’s In The Know while on a panel before a live crowd about the show. Then, two unassuming audience members came forward during the event’s Q & A.
To our delight, they were RHONJ's Dolores Catania and Margaret Josephs.
How the Women of Dancing Queens Met Their Partners
Dolores began by calling herself a “frustrated ballroom dancer,” but wanted to get right into the business regarding the Dancing Queens’ partners.
“All your partners are so sexy,” said Dolores. “Where do you find them? And how many dance partners have you had?”
Donie joked that she found her dance partner on the Bumble dating website before explaining that she’s had the same partner for seven or eight years, which isn’t uncommon around the ballroom dancing circuit.
“You find them around at different studios,” said Donie. “I mean, I can link to New York City, but there’s a lot of independent studios, and you kind of go and scope people out.”
Several Dancing Queens cast members have compared their long-term partnerships to a marriage (or escorts because of how much money the women shell out for their services). And, just like finding a partner IRL, there are certain things a person can look for when choosing the perfect partner, Donie explained.
“You’ll see people at competition, and you see how they interact with their student, and maybe you like what they look like on the floor, or you like what they look like with the students, or maybe you like the way their student looks, and you think, ‘Wow, maybe he could turn me into someone like her,’” said Donie. “So, there’s a lot of different avenues."
Parisian businesswoman and MedSpa owner Gaëlle added she found her partner in Spain, but noted she loves Italian men – which Dolores agreed with.
Sabrina, meanwhile, had her husband help her find a partner.
“I was dancing with somebody else, and I saw… just like Donie said,” said Sabrina, referring to her own partner. “And I said, ‘I want that relationship.’”
Of course, the rules are different with picking out professional dancers compared to picking life partners. For Sabrina, she took a more indirect route.
“I actually didn’t have the audacity to call him myself,” Sabrina said. “Yeah, I wanted stuff. I made my husband call him because I was too scared.”
According to Sabrina, her husband contacted the male dancer and said, “My wife wants you to make her a champion.”
Whether she will reign as a champion has yet to be seen. However, the series’ First Look shows there might be trouble on the horizon. In one clip, Sabrina argues with her partner, who challenges Sabrina by saying, “What are you doing here if you don’t believe in my coaching?”
Sabrina then tells producers, “I’m done with him.”
Another clip has Colette explaining she was “partner dumped” during filming.
RHONJ’s Dolores and Margaret might want to take the women’s advice on finding men with a grain of salt.
