After Sandy and her wife, Leah Shafer, purchased property in Florida, the construction on their dream home came to a surprising halt when, as Sandy told First Coast News in February, the developer went "MIA with all of our money."

They eventually hired a new contractor, but Leah explained to the outlet, “We worked hard to pay for this house in cash...and it’s gone… and now, basically, we’re paying for this house twice.”

Sandy shared a similar statement to Entertainment Weekly in February, noting, "We just want to enjoy our lives after this nightmare. We are working hard to earn money to finish and now have to get a construction loan."

More recently, things are looking up for the couple as they prepare to move into the house.

"The driveway's down. We're waiting for landscaping. We're making it happen," Sandy told The Daily Dish in May, noting that she was hopeful the renovation would be done by "the end of June."

When working on the interior design of the home, Sandy admitted, "Leah did everything, just like [she did] at the wedding. I'm grateful."

"It's an open house plan. So, the living room [and] kitchen is all open," she said. "And it has five bedrooms."

Although the process of building the home has come with challenges, Sandy knew from the moment she entered her new neighborhood that it was the right choice. "I drove through it, there were water slides and golf cart lanes, and I'm like, 'I wanna live here,'" she shared.

Sandy, Leah, and Leah's daughter, Lauren, were previously living in Colorado, and listed their house there earlier this year.

“Our home in Parker, Colorado has expansive mountain views and is beautifully designed and turn-key for its next owner,” Sandy told The New York Post in April. “Moving to Florida was always our plan after Lauren graduated.”

Winter House viewers got to see a glimpse into Sandy and Leah's Colorado life when they joined the cast for a day of skiing and snowboarding on Season 3, Episode 7.

"I've been here 12 years now and then Sandy and I have been living here for four," Leah told Katie Flood. "Sandy and I, you know, we're older, we want to enjoy the last half of our lives together."
