Angelo Sosa's 8 Easy Tips for the Perfect BBQ
From grilling tips to simple salads, the Top Chef star spills his outdoor cooking secrets.
Summer is in full swing—and it's time to fire-up the grill (or the hibachi on your fire escape). And who better to share his secrets for tossing the perfect party than our Top Chef alums?
This week, Angelo Sosa serves up eight tips for easy entertaining, from grilling secrets to recipes for simple salads.
When he's not busy entertaining or running his restaurant empire, Angelo has been keeping busy by raising money Habitat for Humanity. And he needs your help to provide homes for the unfortunate. Feeling generous? Head to his donation page to give anything you can. "One small act of kindness can change people's hearts," he tells the Dish. "Building these homes for these families is inspiring and motivates me to give to the world."
And now, Angelo spills his secrets:
Flavor Your Meats With Wood
Get some amazing wood for that fabulous flavor for the grilled meats. I recommend applewood or mesquite.
Season Your Burgers
Don't be shy with the salt, the reaction with the salt and the char of the grill make that a spectacular burger.
Experiment With Cocktails—and Waterguns!
Get creative with summer fruits: watermelon, berries, even vegetables if you need an excuse to drink. I love making a watermelon and jalapeño margarita. Keep it seasonal and fun. You can also try using water guns—fill them with drinks and take the party to the next level!
Marinading Is Key
You need to prep your meat in a marinade at least a day in advance. Let's work that yummy factor!
Don't Forget Good Music
I'm Dominican so latino music would bring quite the flare to any party.
Let the Grill Do Its Thing
Let your meats sit on the grill and don't turn your food too quickly. Only turn it when the side of the meat looks cooked half way.
Any BBQ Will Be a Hit With These Go-To Dishes
Kebabs, grilled corn with Sriracha and coconut, and a watermelon salad with goat cheese and candied wasabi.
Whole-Fish Tacos Are Delicious Too!
Using a freshly caught fish can be a game changer. Set up a taco station buffet style, grill the whole fish wrapped in banana leaves and sit back and watch the smiles of people devouring your labors.
