Andy Cohen: How Bravo Shaped Views on Same-Sex Couples
The WWHL host opens up about today's Supreme Court ruling -- and how Bravo influenced the nation's conversation.
The Bravo family is celebrating the Supreme Court's historic decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act and California's Proposition 8. Everyone from Bethenny Frankel and Fredrik Eklund to Newlyweds' Jeff Pedersen and Blair Late have joyously shared their thoughts on today's news.
Andy Cohen tells the Dish that Bravo has helped shape the country's view towards same-sex couples over the years, thanks to our boundary-pushing programming, which celebrates a diversity of opinion, lifestyles, and views.
"A lot of people have asked me about why the national consciousness has changed so much in the last 10 years and I think part of it has to do with seeing more gay people in pop culture," Cohen says. "Seeing couples like Brad [Goreski] and Gary [Janetti] and Fredrik and his now-husband Derek and Jeff and Blair...it's really powerful because these are people with whom you develop close relationships and they come into your home every day. I'm proud Bravo has always reflected the society around us without judgment or without editorialization. And I think I'm just ... I truly never thought this would be something that would happen in my lifetime."
Expect a big celebration on Watch What Happens Live this week—especially with pop diva and gay icon Cher dropping by the Clubhouse.
"I think it's hilarious that we have Cher tomorrow to celebrate with!" Cohen says.
