Alan Cumming Was Shocked by How "Tribal" the Housewives Are on The Traitors
Plus, Alan is truly surprised that these Bravolebs have stuck around as long as they have ...
It may come as a surprise for The Traitors fans to learn that host Alan Cumming is a bit clueless when it comes to reality television. While the Emmy-winning Peacock series brings together some of reality TV's most famous faces to compete at a remote castle in the Scottish Highlands, its host is willing to admit he's a bit lost when it comes to the players' reputations.
In the latest episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Andy asked Alan what surprised him the most, specifically about the Bravolebs competing this season: Phaedra Parks (Married to Medicine), Shereé Whitfield (The Real Housewives of Atlanta), Larsa Pippen (The Real Housewives of Miami), Mercedes “MJ” Javid (Shahs of Sunset), Tamra Judge (The Real Housewives of Orange County), and Kate Chastain (Below Deck).
Bravo's Housewives Took Alan Cumming, Host of The Traitors, by Surprise
"They’re very tribal," Alan said. "You [see] them all in a sort of tribal unit. Phaedra is like, 'Don’t come for the Housewives.' It’s got this real sort of tribal, primal ... 'We’re part of this gang and you mustn’t do it!'

"But there’s also the people ... it’s really interesting which people come through to my awareness through the general zeitgeist," he added. "I did know who Phaedra was. I did know Tamra. A couple people like that who have been around for a while and kind of break through [to my awareness]. But for the most part, I didn’t even know the name of the show that C.T. and Trishelle were on, [The Challenge]. So it’s like a crash course in reality TV. And it’s fantastic! I mean I’m obsessed when I’m doing it."
Is Alan Cumming surprised that any Bravolebs have lasted this long on The Traitors?
While Phaedra has been taking names (and murdering the Faithful) as a Traitor, a couple of the remaining Bravo Faithful are holding on by a thread in Alan's mind. When Andy asked him which Bravo competitors had truly surprised him by sticking around for so long, he was quick to give his answer: MJ and Shereé.
Which Bravolebs does Alan Cumming find the funniest on The Traitors?
Alan, a multi-hyphenate talent who knows how to bring the laughs, has found a couple of Bravolebs especially entertaining throughout the season. When asked to rank the Top-5 funniest competitors, Phaedra came in at No. 4. He specifically quoted a comment Phaedra made after she and her fellow Traitors (mostly Parvati Shallow) poisoned fan-favorite Faithful Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu in plain site, ultimately ousting her from the game: “Sweet baby Jesus, not Ekin-Su."
The line was delivered with such gusto that Alan says someone tagged him in a picture on social media of a needlepoint of the quote.
But the No. 1 spot belonged to none other than Kate Chastain (Below Deck), who recently joined the Season 2 cast as a surprise entrant!
"The woman cannot do anything without making you die of laughter at some point no matter what she says or how badly she’s behaving. Her audacity!" Alan said.
