Austen Kroll Defends His “Different” Sense of Style After “Getting Ragged On”
The Southern Charm cast member’s friends had a lot to say about his recent outfits, including the salmon pants and skull shoes.
The oyster roast that Olivia Flowers hosted with her parents on the July 28 episode of Southern Charm was filled with memorable moments — but there was one thing in particular people couldn’t stop buzzing about: Austen Kroll’s outfit.
“I’m gonna say hi to Austen and his goofy pants,” Olivia said as Austen arrived, later telling him, “You’re poppin’ off with the color.” Still, she concluded, his look was “perfect.”
While Kathryn Dennis noted that Austen’s ensemble was “very nautical,” John Pringle couldn’t help but crack a few jokes about it. After calling Austen “Mr. Pink Pants,” he continued, “You were like, ‘The invitation said to dress like an a--hole, and by god I was going to.’”
While Austen laughed off the commentary during the event, he took a moment to defend his look while speaking with BravoTV.com earlier this month. First of all, he quipped, “[The pants] are salmon,” and he “thought it fit the theme.”
“Someone told me that it was a nautical-themed thing,” he explained. “So I wore these Nantucket red pants. I thought, ‘What better place to wear these?’ I haven’t worn them in I can’t tell you how long, but I saw them in my closet and I was like, this is perfect for this party.”
“I don’t know why my pants were getting ragged on,” he continued, “but I thought they looked good.”
On the show’s Season 8 premiere, a different look of Austen’s got some unexpected attention. As he met Olivia’s parents for the first time, they didn’t hold back their thoughts on his footwear. “I’m a little concerned about the skull and bones on your shoes," Olivia’s dad said with a laugh. Her mom chimed in, asking, “What were we thinking when we put those shoes on?”
Although Olivia’s parents weren’t fans of the shoes, Austen stands by his choice thanks to a little encouragement from Andrea Denver. “Those shoes are a very nice Italian brand called Del Toro, and they are a wonderful company. I know this because Andrea told me that he’s heard of them and they are a great company, and he tried to get some for himself,” Austen told BravoTV.com. “I thought those were interesting shoes, and I wear them with tuxes. I think it’s just like a great little pop. Something different.”
Still, Austen admitted, “I found it amusing, more than anything, that [Olivia’s] mother was giving me s--t for it.”
