Kathryn C. Dennis' Outfit Takes a Stand Against Charleston's "Good Ole Boys"
The Southern Charm mama is all about female empowerment, and she makes sure it shows in her fashion choices.
Kathryn C. Dennis makes a style statement a minute, but her latest look had a message that went way beyond fashion. In a February 4 Instagram post, the Southern Charm mother wore a jacket that, of course, was completely chic. (This is fashion guru Kathryn, after all!) But it was the written message on the jacket — as well as Kathryn's caption — that had a deeper meaning.
Before we show you the jacket, let's quickly revisit a classic Southern Charm moment from Season 5, Episode 1. Right before they headed over to Shep Rose's house for a dinner party, Naomie Olindo hosted a gathering for the girls. And it wasn't only the wine that was flowing: The gang had a strong moment of deep conversation and female solidarity.
After discussing how some of the male members of the crew put up a good-guy facade, but acted poorly behind the scenes, Naomie shared: "Charleston's definitely a town where 'good ole boys' kind of band together and have most of the power." But, look who else can band together!
Kathryn was also at the bash, and said that at that point in her life, she was the most focused on: "Me, my life. Forming girlfriends, and my support system." Naomie agreed, saying: "At the end of the day, we're all we've got. We're not going to screw each other over; we're not going to do this stuff that guys will do over and over and over again ... and be cool with it." Naomie added, of the solidarity: "It's just a good moment, women empowerment!"
Now, back to the present. When Kathryn wore a jacket that said "Good Ole Girl" on the back, that moment of empowerment at Naomie's house came rushing back to us.
And in her caption, Kathryn further underscored the message, writing: "just a good ol’ girl never meanin’ no harm #subliminal #timesup," referring to the Time's Up movement that calls for an end to overlooking unacceptable behavior, particularly from men who are used to holding and abusing power.
Now that's a statement coat!
