The Tony Awards Red Carpet Was Full of Gorgeous Christian Siriano Designs
The Project Runway mentor created so many eye-popping looks for Broadway’s biggest night.
After a memorable evening at the 2023 Met Gala full of florals, pearls, and extravagant trains, Christian Siriano has struck again with a slew of fabulous designs.
For the June 11 Tony Awards, the designer outfitted several celebrities in his head-turning designs, even granting one such celebrity a headline-making moment when she made a very special announcement in a three-piece Siriano set (more on that in a bit).
Alex Newell, who, per The Hollywood Reporter, made history as the first openly nonbinary performer to win a Tony Award for actor in a featured role, revealed to Vanity Fair the thought process behind their glowing off-the-shoulder gown.
“Right after the Met, [Christian] was like, ‘I want to dress you for the Tonys. I was like, ‘Great. Let's go,’” the former Glee star told the outlet. “He got it, I think, because when I said, ‘I want to show body. I want to be plus-sized and still show shape,’ he took that into account when making and designing this gown.”
They added: “It’s gorgeous — a very form-fitting, draped, metallic gold fantasia."
Elsewhere in the evening was actress Katy Sullivan who rocked a cerulean-colored off-the-shoulder flirty tulle number as well as actor Calin Leon Smith who wore an original take on the black pinstripe suit with trousers and a cropped jacket.
TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney also turned heads on the red carpet, wearing a glamourous off-the-shoulder black crystal mesh gown with a structured bodice and exaggerated skirt. Dylan paired the elegant look with a light blonde lob with lightly tousled waves.
What's more, Orange is the New Black alum Uzo Aduba made a very special announcement in a tangerine-colored design by Christian: she's pregnant with her first child.
"Congratulations UZO so happy for you! You are going to be the most fabulous mom and I love dressing you all these years later!" Christian captioned an Instagram share of the actress in the outfit, which consisted of an oversized blazer, matching crop top, and wide-leg slacks. Aduba unbuttoned the suit jacket to reveal her bump while she was standing on the red carpet.
"Thank you so so [much] [Christian Siriano] for making so many moments in my life, like this one, so memorable and special," Aduba, who has worn Christian's designs in the past, wrote in the comments section. Aduba is expecting her first baby with her filmmaker husband, Robert Sweeting, according to PEOPLE.
